I need your help, I recently got the rug waxed, first time ever, back wax virgin, b4 you ask the pain was ....PAINFUL, but that was short lived, my real issue is just happenin in the last few days my back has broken out in an unbelievable carpet of spots/boils/ zits/acne however you want to call them, and there painful, super sensitive to the touch, itchy, and now the hair is growing back its just plain ugly.

Why did I do it,no idea, has anyone any suggestions even just to sooth, calm them down, Ive never seen anything like it, even as teenager I never suffered this bad, and there right in the most awkardest location, you cant get at them, half tempted to go down to Woodies and get a painter scraper or roller, something anything.
    Please help thanks in advance

Ps Mods please feel free to relocate this if this is the wrong location, thanks

You should probably have posted this in tll not for the giggle factor just because women have more experience of this kind of thing.

Im not an expert but here goes and I have never had a waxing and wouldnt. My expertise is that of a parent of teenagers and young adults.

Now what has happened here is that you have ripped your hair out by the roots and got an infection either in the pores or in the follicles growing back. So the best thing you can do is clean it thoroughly and keep it dry.

Probably the best thing to do is to have a hot bath and clean the area dry it thoroughly and use an antisceptic cream on it- like sudocream thats used for nappyrash. You should probably do this morning and night and use a toner like witchhazel to close the pores.

Get a non perfumed or medicated bodywash and keep away from the smelly stuff.

It also stands to reason that as your lower back is a very sweaty area it is a great place for fungal infections too.

I dont know if you can get an antisceptic antifungal cream over the counter at the chemist but its worth a shot and would save you the 50 euro plus you would pay the doctor. If your back is enflamed ie red itchy and weepy go to the GP now.

Dont wear any man made fibre clothes near it but clean cotton t shirts etc to soak up the sweat. If it still is irritated after a day or so go to your GP for an antibiotic cream etc.

Can I ask what you thought would happen after the waxing and the hairs started to grow back.

I doubt it is a fungal infection.
It is likely just ingrown hairs.
A soak in the tub with a couple of cups of Epsom's salts. And some exfoliation with a scrub of a back brush will help.
Exfolianting as the hair grows back, or using a product like tend skin will prevent it in future.

As a woman I've some experience in this area.

Firstly there's not much you can do now other than wait it out. You can buy anti-acne shower gels, I think Clearasil do one, but they're hard to come across.

Tea tree oil will help clear the spots too. Try find one in a spray bottle (or buy a little empty spray bottle in boots and fill in with the tea tree) cause it'll be easier to apply if it's in an awkward place to reach. Try to let the air at is as much as you can and don't pick at them.

I know it might not be of much use cause it doesn't sound like there will be a next time but it's really important to keep the area exfoliated after you wax. Just every time you shower or every second shower if you shower often. It'll stop in-grown hairs and prevent the spots.

    Hope that helps! :)

You have folliculitis, which is a bacterial infection of the hair follicle.

When you get waxed the follicles are left open + it's easy for bacteria to entre the follicles, through touching with your hands, your clothes, poor hygiene in the salon etc.

The best thing you can do is keep the area clean + avoid touching it. Use an antiseptic cream like Savlon. If it doesn't improve within 2 days consult your GP and you'll be prescribed with a cream/antibiotics.

I'd also contact the salon you got it done it, did they give you oral/written aftercare advice? If not they're liable.

It is likely just ingrown hairs.

That would be my guess aswell. A nice steamy shower/bath is advised, then exfoliate in both the direction the hair grows and the opposite. A good "scrub" is needed in order to dislodge hairs. No harm trying a product like savalon too.

In the future, Veet cream works well. I personally havnt used it but ive heard good things, quick and simple.

Of coarse Im no doctor so take mine, along with others, with a bit of caution before you go buying expensive products or whatever.

OP - I hope it was just your back that got waxed as I have heard these treatments often come as a package deal.

If the work was further down a visit to the doctor may be inevitable.

It's a pretty horrible thing to happen.

As suggested, Tea Tree Oil is the way to go, it's a natural antiseptic and works wonders. For the itch you can also try Aveeno Ultra Calming Lotion. There's is oatmeal in it which is a naturally soothing.

if you cannot reach all the affected area, make appointment with beautician who did the job. She will be used to similar problems and should be able to assist you. Going forward, perhaps you could get someone to rub veet or suchlike on your back.

I'm a beautician and I honestly don't think it's ingrown hairs that you have, especially if the spots are to the extent you say. It's also rare to get so many ingrown hairs on your back.

To be honest no good beautician should be used to this problem

From his description I have a fair idea what he's talking about. See my post from earlier below. Most beatician's get hot + bothered when you come in with a problem as they think they're gonna get their ass sued, so they'll fob you off to a doctor. I'd save yourself the hastle + just go straight to the doc but inform the salon either before/after.

Hi all OP here, Thanks for all your insightful replies,as you can tell from the date its been a little over three weeks.

The itching is somewhat calmer at this stage,- yes I was aware the hair grows back!!!! In saying that, getting the back wax done was part of a package and I got the legs done too.
-My legs are fine all things considered.

I had been taken cool showers in the begining just to cool the area, Ive found a top I can wear at night that doesnt seem to set it off,
I will try all the things recommemded - witchazel-where can I get this- (health stores??), exfoilation, savlon, etc.

As for the Salon, they did say no shower for 24hrs, no tight clothes, deoderant.I did as I was told. I did get "hive like" reaction on the legs but they went almost immediately.

As a teenager you could never wear white tops ever...and now Im back there again cant wear white nothing save wear something underneath.

Beauty101 is it too late to contact the salon now at this stage seeing as I had it done some three weeks ago?

Thanks again to all who replied, I going to weigh up all your recommendations and use what I think may help the most.

no id still contact the salon, but be prepared for them to try convince u its not their fault

if you have this infection, 3 weeks post waxing, then the waxing may NOT be the cause. some bacteria has managed to get into your skin. This would not be the beauticians fault at all.

    You need to see GP.

You need to adopt a very thorough washing ritual. No baths, showers only. Use a medicated shower gel. Do not use a brush, but simply use your hands. You should change clothes daily. No two day use of vest etc.

Towels should be dried between uses or if possible, use a fresh towel each shower. All laundry should be done at min 60 degrees to prevent bacteria living in the clean cloths.

OP - all this stuff in non prescription and you can get it in any ordinary chemists like boots or in the help desk of the pharmacy. Total cost 20 euro tops.

A tub of Epsom salts, you know what that is.

An exfoliant is a wash with gritty bits that will take of the top layer of skin and open the pores 2 or 3 euro. If its medicated like a bit more.

Tea tree oil - the same but around a fiver

Withhazel - is a clear liquid that closes the pores around 2 euro

    Savlon 4 or 5 euro

OP here, thanks guys for your help.
For the sake of all humanity, and not vanity, stick with the rug save the "fur"- its cruel and inhumane to do otherwise and phukin painful too.

    Thanks again
