TWO PROBLEMS WITH MY NEW HUMAX. PLEASE HELP

My Humax 320gb PVR arrived last week. It takes a bit of getting used too after the simplicity of the Sky+ box. I've two problems that maybe someone could help me with:

    1. There's a prob with sound on BBCHD. Sometimes volume wont go up or down (on the Humax box). Sometimes when I change channel after viewing BBCHD the sound goes from all the channels. Is this a common prob or is it only me? The volume on BBCHD is always much louder than the other channels.

    2. This is driving me crazy! When I turn on the Humax box, the TV (a Phillips PFL7404) doesn't switch over to it automatically. I have to go through the Source button and scroll down to HDMI1 each time. (It's especially frustrating as I am viewing RTE tuned into the TV alot and have to go through the procedure to switch back to the box). is there a setting on the box or my TV that could rectify this??

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Thanks,

    Ozzie:confused:

    1) The HD channels broadcast the Vol at max, This prob of not being able to adjust sound on a HD ch is the same on all Freesat Box's

    2) Auto switching generally doesnt occur via HDMI, some TV's do support it, try using a different HDMI port on your tv & check the user manual to see if their is an option to switch on

Pretty much the same as pa990's answer...

    1) Thats the pain of BBCHD but in saying that I've got the sound going through my surround sound system so only ever adjust the volume on that and not the humax itself.

    2) None of my TV's with HDMI will switch automatically to a HDMI source when its powered on, a pain as you say, but its not the Humax's fault.

My good lady wife hated the fact that the HDMI signal wouldn't auto-switch our Panasonic TV. A workable solution is to use a SCART cable in addition to the HDMI. The TV auto-switches to the SCART input when the Humax is turned on. The SD picture is quite acceptable and you have control of the volume. When we (mostly just me!) want to watch HD I turn on the AV amp and switch the TV to HDMI.

Thanks for that. Any idea why sound is gone on other stations when BBCHD is being recorded?. It seems weird, for all the advances with HD, etc that I'd have to revert back to scart to get a basic funtion. Love the BBCHD channel by the way. Am nearly always recording something off it, which adds to the problem!!

It's also weird that its the blokes who like the HD. My missus is the same. She says she can't see the difference!!!!!!!!!

Just FYI... My panny (TX-37LZD70) will auto switch to HDMI 1 but not HDMI 2.

I have a 42" full HD plasma (don't know the model) but it won't auto-switch on HDMI 1 or 2, whether or not the SCART is connected.
The SCART solution works for us because the HDMI is routed through the AV amplifier and herself can't be bothered with all that;)

As I understand it, you have the Humax connected to the TV with only the HDMI cable - correct? The video signal and sound are both carried on the HDMI. The Humax will carry Dolby 5.1 surround sound on the HDMI cable (unlike SKY boxes which just carry stereo). It may be that your Phillips TV is not recognising the change from DD 5.1 to stereo or that there is a setup error. On my Panasonic there is a menu option which allows you to change the HDMI sound handling between analogue, digital or auto. There might be something similar on your Phillips. On the Humax setup menu (TV) there is a setting "Dolby Digital" which can be on or off. I'm not sure what it does as I seem to get full DD no matter what the setting is. You could try this as I certainly have no problems with sound on other channels when BBC HD is recording. I'm assuming you have both LNB cables connected and that the diagnotics screen shows both tuners in operation?
