Russian Ark by Sokurov was on BBC4 last night apparently. Was looking out for it for a while. Did anyone see it? Was it good?

I've seen it before. It's brilliantly put together but as boring as f*ck. If you're into "out there" art then you might like it. If you're expecting a film, you won't find one.

It is not to everyone's taste, but I have always liked it. I love the way it flows, and for the whole film to have been done in one long unbroken shot is a testament to an amazing amount of playing and timing.

It is a film that I am really looking forward to seeing on blu ray sometime in the future as it was shot in a high definition format and should really look amazing in the blu ray format.

I saw about twenty minutes of it once and was really impressed, always meant to check the whole thing out. The Russian history stuff is fairly heavy, but as a cinematic experiment it is extremely impressive, considering the amount of people and timing involved.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

The concept is quite interesting but lets just say I won't be going back for a second viewing...

Its an incredible technical achievement but its pretty hollow, something media studies students will gush over

If you're Russian or know a good but about Russian history you'll get a lot out of it.

Personally I knew a tiny bit about the Romanovs and that was it, bored out of my mind. Person I was with knew quite a bit and loved it. It was cool though the one shot thing and the ballroom scene was class.

Pretty much sums it up. While as you say, fair play to them for pulling it off, but I must admit to being very bored by it.
A bit like The Cure For Insomnia. Interesting concept, but damned if I'm sitting through it.
