I'm quite new to running, started in early August this year.

So far have run 2 5k races and am training with a club two nights a week.

Have entered a 10k in mid-February and just looking for advice on a training programme I could follow to prepare me for this.

Would I be ok just continuing my training twice a week with the club and then gradually increasing my distance on my weekend runs til i hit the 10k mark?

(6k is the furthest road run I've done to date, 10 k seems quite daunting, but I like a challenge :))

Apologies in advance if this is a stupid question!

First of all, good luck :)

You could try following something like the Hal Higdon novice 10k plan, but if you're combining two nights of training with the club and a longer run at the weekend you could just gradually extend your weekend run distance until then. Maybe try extending your long run by about .5-1km per week?

Also, if you're in Dublin, doing the Raheny 5 mile race in late January might also give you a good idea of where you're at in terms of your training, if you're outside Dublin there might be other shorter races in your area that you could work into your training.

Thank you very much rainbow kirby.

Good advice there. The Raheny 5 mile sounds like a good idea, it'll give me an indication of how I'm doing.

    Thanks again.
