Query on Warrantys etc

From previous posts here, I am buying a new car in 2010 - am trying to learn a lot in a short space of time bout buying a new car.

Am looking around at the moment for the best deal. Seems the dealer where I am from is not interested in negotiating with me at all - unfortunately I have to look further afield. My question is, if I buy a car say in Dublin and say I am from Cork, if something happened the car within the warranty period, is it fixed/returned to the dealer in dublin? Or does it apply to all brand dealers?

    Thanks!

Any dealer of the brand you buy will cover it so long as it is a warranty item

Unless its a used car in which case it has to go back to the supplying dealer....

Also 2 years is minimum legal warranty on a new car, most will do 3 years and some will give more like Kia's 7 year warranty, remember that you need to keep the car serviced with approved parts to qualify.

Couple of years ago, I tried to book in our Ford Focus for some warranty work at a different Ford garage than the one the car was bought from. They didn't want to know, basically told me to feck off and go back to the garage that sold us the car.

This particular garage is still in business. I wonder has their attitude changed thanks to the recession.

Strictly speaking your warranty is with the manufacturer and not the garage and so any garage should honour it. However as the garage probably looses money when they do warranty work due to restrictions by the manufacturer, they won't be overjoyed to do it if they didn't sell the car.

You could in theory dig your heels in and tell them to do the work, but there's not much you can really do other than complain to the manufacturer if they refuse.

And post here so other people can avoid them.
