BTEA refused..Q

I have been refused BTEA for my post grad study.

I applied to my local social welfare office and was told my course didn't apply to the scheme, I had no time to appeal or think about it back in sept but now, I have looked at the website and it seems my course should apply.

I called the citizens advice people and they said the same. i appealed the decision a few weeks ago but it was un successful, I think the local office I deal with are clueless and I did not write a very good letter maybe, also I had no supporting documents. (such as a letter from the citizens information, whom I just called last week.)

I am going back to Citizens information next week to see what can be done.

Get in touch with your local TD with all the relevant documentation along with Btea guidelines on eligibility. Ask them to act on your behalf.
Explain you applied and appealed and still have been refused and that you should be eligible under the rules.

~Ensure the course is still a Hdiploma and not morphed into a postgrad diploma

It says its a HDip but also says a Post Grad Diploma.

when I applied it was a HDip, I think its called both. its not a full Masters as such.

If you look the course up on the Postgraduate Applications Clearing site, it's official title is 'Postgraduate Diploma in Microelectronic Design'. It must have changed from it's previous HDip status recently (which actually makes sense in the context of the NFQ given the course content). As such you'll probably be out of luck with BTEA.

When I applied it was a HDip, back in aug/sept.

I was of course thinking of the BTEA back then also. Seems mad to change the course. i still think I should appeal again, Citizens Information backed me up

I'd definitely give an appeal a shot but I wouldn't hold my breath. I'd expect them to say that "it's not our fault" and point out that there's over half a year until the application deadline to pick a different course. I can imagine that it's a bit of a kick in the teeth for you.

This particular course was obviously deemed to be at level nine of the NFQ meaning that it could no longer be awarded as a H.Dip and instead had to be a Postgraduate Diploma. Given that it's essentially a version of their one-year Masters without the research element that makes sense. Courses do get added/changed/dropped mid-cycle all the time.

pick a different course,? like arts...?!

It was for sure a HDip when I applied, its on the website for the facility still, as a HDip.

I can appeal for sure. I was banking on the BTEA. now, i have diddly squat.

since the grant to people on bte is gone since the budget,
you can only receive one or the other so if u cant get bte you can apply for a grant
