Thye've got zero resale value and getting parts are a pain in the arse. Twas the MG F that had the head gasket problem if memory serves me correctly...

If you buy with your eyes open regarding head gasket (and make provisions for one) it's a lot of nice enough looking car for the money

Myth on the parts issue. Rimmer Bros in the UK have a huge stock of Rover parts, and can be shipped next day.

Most of this post is wrong TBH.
The ZR105 (1.4) actually has a following in Ireland due to the small engine size and relatively high power. it has 30bhp more than a 1.4 Golf or Focus from the same era, they come with a bodykit from factory and some extrovert colours were available. Sure they don't hold their value like a Golf but they're not worthless.
Also - if they have low second hand value, how is this a bad thing if the OP is looking to buy one second hand?

There is a problem with the head gasket, but there is a modified gasket available that greatly reduces the chances of it happening again, apart from this issue, there's not a whole lot else that goes wrong on them. Compare that with the much vaunted Golf 1.4 which has countless weak points.

Also, as PaintDoctor pointed out, parts aren't an issue, especially when you consider the long production run that the 200/25/ZR had. Also factor in the huge number of them in the UK.

If you like the car go for it, apart from the head gasket bein
a weak point on them there not a bad little car, nippy
things too. Just do the usual checks before buying.

i have an 02 one at the moment. bought it as a run around.
its a good car, nice bodykit, half leather bucket seats, sun roof and fairly comfy for what it is.

dont listen to the post at the top about the parts problem, they are still very easy to get parts for. ryans in blach still stick parts iirc or if you wana buy online theres http://www.ukmgparts.com/default.aspx

theres a few mg zr forums around too, mostly english, they had a big following over there, didnt realise this until after i bought.

the head gasket is an issues but only if it goes and you keep driving imo
the one i have has 52k on the clock and at 49k the timing belt was being done so the previous owner upgraded the head gasket and water pump at the same time. ive been told that if i keep it, then budget to do the headgasket every 50k to be safe.
