Mickie James's Current Storyline

A user posted this on Mickie's Twitter page;

"I'm really offended right now with the WWE making jokes about your weight. I'm really worried about girls who watch wrestling, see this kind of thing, and fall victim to hating their bodies. Because honey, if you’re not a perfect 10, I've never seen one. Why are they letting this charade happen?"

To which Mickie replied with;

"Awe! Thank you, sweetie. And I agree. I think the example being set is pathetic. Giving the youth a warped perception of beauty. After all… one has to love themselves first. Society makes that hard. No worries. I love myself and my body. 130 is hardly fat."

I heard a few months go that WWE apparently thought Mickie was getting fat. I haven't been watching WWE that much but I did catch TLC. To my bemusement I found that the WWE had actually made a storyline out of this.

I don't see the merit in the storyline at all. It doesn't really do anything for Mickie as she's already loved, getting sympathy from the audience is not going to do much for her in the long run. As for McCool all this is going to give her is more X-Pac heat, everytime I've watched her she's either go no reaction at all or as already mentioned, heat because she's simply not liked. This storyline is only going to intensify that. Finally, LOL @ the mere suggestion that Mickie is fat. That's all I can say really.

How do the rest of you feel about this storyline? Do you see any merit in it for either Mickie or McCool or both?

Maybe it will get McCool over a bit more, but the storyline is plain wrong. Piggy James? FFS, the girl has an incredible figure. Not rake thing, but still damn fit.

That said, the storyline does not surprise me in the least. The only surprise is similar was not done before.

Being honest, McCool is so thin it disgusts me, you nearly wouldn't see her if she turned sidewards. I'd take Mickie any day (not that I have a choice:(;)). The entire storyline is childish and unnecessary and I'd expect better but then again WWE don't actually care about their womens division do they.

I actually think it will work really well for Mickie in the long term. She was already super popular but by being picked on by Layla and Michelle they're giving her so much sympathy that it will really really help her. Wrestlers like Awesome Kong, Chyna and ODB have shown that you don't need to be a size 0 to get over and in some times it actually helps not to be, the crowd don't get behind a wafer thing body when everybody in the company has one, they get behind the personality and being picked on by super thing girls is a sure way to get a massive face reaction.

Also think it could damage McCool's career to the level it couldn't be reverted if it's a long term angle. This Piggie James stuff is to her what Tori was to X-Pac

I don't think the storyline would have surprised me had there been no context to it, but as I said I heard rumours that the WWE felt Mickie was letting herself go before the storyline started. I can't believe that they took such a serious subject for so many women and made it into a storyline, it's borderline ridiculing and punishment of Mickie. I'm surprised that she, McCool and Layla even agreed to it.

Aye, traditionally, my favourite divas have always been the non-stick thin ones such as Trish, Torrie and Mickie.

I agree it is incredibly childish. I think it goes beyond not caring about the women's division though, the storyline is showing a blatant disregard towards people who struggle with this issue which often ends in tragic circumstances.

What I don't get though is Layla's role in this. She's curvy, she doesn't look that skinnier than Mickie IMO, that's why I think this storyline is not about pushing Mickie.

I hope you're right though, hopefully this will work out for Mickie. As for McCool, don't care about her (dates back to before she even got with Taker). I've always just felt a big meh towards her.

Finally, I laughed at McCool "putting on" a trailer trash accent to take the piss out of Mickie. IMO McCool has no need to put on that accent because she always had it.

Not if she's not in the company it won't. She's been doing college courses apparently and has signed a country music deal too.

On the one hand WWE wants to be PG and family friendly but on the other side, they want all of their woman to be 120lbs or they start labelling them as fat.

McCool has improved tremendously in the ring and on the mic.

Obviously her being with Taker helped her get pushed, but she is definitely talented.

Being a pretty, thin, blonde in a sea of pretty, thin, blondes makes it hard for her to get the crowd to care about her at all though.

Edit: Not a fan of the storyline or the treatment Mickie is currently getting and Molly got in the past.

My basic point is that she's clearly looking beyond wrestling and at 30 given how wrestling is, it's not a bad idea.

Surely there's only one way the storyline will end and that is for Mickie to come out on top. If she doesn't, and the "stick thin divas" reign supreme over the "fat" diva, surely that will bring a media shit-storm down upon the WWE?

I think what pisses them off is that they have repeatedly tried to knock her off her perch as the top face only to repeatedly fail. They tried McCool as the top face, they then pushed Maria as well as Kelly Kelly. The only one who has come close is Melina.

Its not a nice storyline but if Mickie is leaving as its been rumored than Vince has decided to bury her on the way out petty but its no surprise really.
oh and Mickie has been dreadful this year the extra weight she has piled on has not helped her mobility in the ring so she is far from blameless in this.

I strained my eyes on Monday morning looking for signs of this alleged weight gain. In fact I thought there was little difference between her physique and Layla's. I don't suppose anyone has any before and after shots? :pac:

She was a little chubby this year, no shame in that normally but if it was affecting her work then surely she is entitled to some criticism?
Honestly as somebody who has been stupid enough to watch a lot of Raw this year I can safely say that she is been nowhere as smooth as she was in previous years.

I think she's definely the most over diva on the roster, I'm not sure about the top face diva though.

TLC happend last week, McTaker beat her.

Melina was traded to SD as Womens champion while Maryse was traded to Raw as Diva's champion. McTaker won the Womens Championship from Melina. Another diva trade happend and Mickie was traded to SD.

Michelle beat her at TLC last week.
She was traded with Beth for Melina, Gail and Fox I think.

I would say that if her own work personally has been poor this year, it's down more to opponents, combined with being worn down by the WWE's system of continually favouring the flavour of the month and forgetting the rest of the division. If i were in her position, i'd have found it hard to maintain focus.

However, she was not a little chubby at all. I find the entire angle absolutely appalling. It's one thing for heels to mock her, but when she's been the victim of the occasional snide bit verbal abuse by announcers it's a different matter altogether. Especially as she's meant to be a Babyface- and the announcers should be the voice of reason. A horrible, horrible example to be sending out to kids watching, and a disgraceful bit of hypocrisy given that they're supposedly trying to be PG. I'd say feeding the media (and yes, general Publics) unhealthy obsession with being a certain body type is a far more unsuitable for kids/teens than the odd hardway splurt of blood.

You're right though. It's no suprise really.

I normally agree with most of your posts but this is where we fall out. :pac:
She's been champion five times and is normally one of the most protected divas on the roster. Jillian is someone that phones it in but she has a reason to, she wins about one match a year, it was the same with Victoria in her last few months, those girls were justified in not giving 100 % and losing focus.

Mickie? Who is booked stronger than her of the divas? Mc Cool but she's booked stronger than Cena for **** sake :pac:

Her matches have been ordinary all year, that match with Gail was a prime example of her sloppiness and laziness recently.
She also along with Maryse put one of the worst PPV matches of the year at NOC, which killed the crowd and accidentally was one of the reasons why Dolph Ziggler's stock dropped so quickly. :eek:

Maybe i should have said that should Mickie win the feud then the storyline can work. Fat? She just won the title. If it ends now with McCool being on top ultimately then it probably signals the beginning of the end for Mickie in WWE.

This storyline is just getting stranger. McCool is now slagging off Maria for being thin, even though McCool is even skinnier, and Beth is upset by the fat jokes, even though she is clearly in tremendous shape.

McCool is by far the thinnest diva on the roster, in fact I do believe she took time off from WWE before over a eating disorder. What a ridiculous storyline.
