Tyson must be one of the worst names to call your dog. Not only is it predictable and bland like Rex or lucky but you are also naming your dog after a rapist.

But my labrador Fritzl is too old for a name change.

Tbh, I doubt theres a common name out there that isn't shared with a rapist. Somewhere out there, somebody has surely gotten raped by a Spot or Fido.

Name your dog Danny then, he was only done for sexual assault....

And there was a reason they had to resort to rape to get laid. :pac:

Of course we all know that all 'doggy sex' is consensual.

In the movie "The Dambusters" there was a dog named nigger.
Try getting away with that today.

I wonder if the upcoming remake will be gutsy enough to do it

When I was growing up most black dogs were called 'nigger', tbh that was over 30 yrs ago, most of us had never seen a black person and we didn't associate the name with anything derogatory.

I'd safely say the first I heard the named in reference to Africans was during the TV mini series 'Roots' and when black American rapper's started hitting the charts here.

We'd a dog named 'Bismerck' too. Named after the famous WWII Nazi battleship.

Mike Tyson wasn't African-American, he was born and rared in the USA

Then again I'm a bit of a hypocrite because I recently found out my Dad had a dog called Hitler when he was a kid and I found it amusing. Moral of the story is only name your dog after someone evil if it's not a common name.

My dog's name is called Geoffrey after this guy.

Any name you pick your dog can be associated with someone evil. If my name is Paul, I wouldn't feel dirty that my names is the same as Paul Pot.
I fail to see the point of your point.

We used to have a Black Lab xx named Winston named after the guy from Ghostbusters. Didnt think there was anything wrong with it at the time (20 odd years ago).

My friend had a dog called Packie, named after Packie Bonner. It got out one day and his dad was shouting after it, didn't notice the South East Asian gentleman making his way up the road.

When I was a kid, our neighbour actually named his black Alsation Niigger. And called him, often loudly, as such. :o

As I said earlier, it was a common name for black dogs years ago.

We had one, used to drive me mad - take its lead off and it ran away, put it on and the damned thing would sing 'Old man river' all night long :P

So certain pet's names are to be considered taboo because of their evil human namesakes? The world has truly gone mad.

I know of dogs called Saddam (a dalmatian) Thatcher ( a Jack Russell) and Bertie (a King Charles Spaniel).

    True.

That was in Crumlin. I'd moved over from England as a kid and obviously you would never call a dog that where we lived there (50% black on our estate) so I couldn't believe it. :)

I know of 3 dogs whose names are those of unimaginable evil: Ian(paisley) Gerry(adams) and the worst of all Bertie. The 3 of them manage to live in peace with each other though, until Bertie was found dead one morning:confused:

Our family pet dog for was named after the guy during the biggest trial that year. My mother came up with the name after several names were rejected and when the trial came on the TV that night she suggested it and it just seemed to fit a Jack Russel dog somehow as it was short and cute and was almost his colours too.

So for the next 12 years until he passed away two years ago year we were stuck calling him after a murderer. BTW his name was OJ :p

Yeah my gf's father tells the story of when he lived in Ballyfermot years ago and the Black Labrador dog with that name.

A friend of mine had a dog called Dingleberry. It wasn't until the dog died that they told her what it meant.
