    Hi

Can you get jobseekers allowance sent to your bank account-ive read from the social welfare website that you cannot 'Jobseeker's Benefit and Jobseeker's Allowance are paid weekly in arrears in a post office using a social welfare services card. Casual workers are paid by cheque.' However I know of people in 2008 on both jobseekers allowance and benefit that were able to get it sent to their bank account and thus avoid going to the post office every week. What gives?

Yes. If you searched further you would have found that after 6 months you can request it to be transferred to your bank account.

And where did you find this information? And why do i have to unemployed for 6 months first? Talk about being anal.

It used to be that you could get bank payment after 6 months - but not anymore. It was found that many claimants were not resident , and flying in to sign on monthly.

Also, many offices no longer have monthly signing due to the sheer volumes, and have opted to have people collect payments at post offices, that way they can ensure that the person is physically resident, and by signing the post office slip the cliamant is declaring that they satisfy all the conditions for their unemployment payment.

ffs! Sure I was born here, went to college, have no criminal record but no the government cant actually trust me. Instead the government trust corrupt bankers and allow for the rip off culture to continue. When is the next general election?

Why not just go to the post office every week? It's the best way to make sure everyone is resident. If you are unemployed and resident you can take the time to collect, no argument imo.

I have to fervently disagree with this argument. Considering how the government are the main party at fault in regard to the NAMA banking bailout, the government is responsible for the dramatic increase in unemployment. That people who through no fault of their own are forced to line up on weekly basis to declare their poorness is a disgrace.

In any case the social welfare offices already interview people for background checks , which includes recent bank statements/details. What is happening is no dought indicative if what a regressive place Ireland has become.

When is the next general election?

No, it is a way of cutting out possible fraud. I don't see why you have such an issue with collecting your money in the post office? If you are unemployed, and resident in the country, it doesn't take up much of your time to go to your local post office and collect it.

If after 6 months you wish to have it paid into your bank account you can request same at your hatch, however it is at their discretion if it is or not (i.e. for example someone was caught flying in and out of the country previously they may not be allowed).

By the way this is not a forum for criticising government, its departments or its policies.

I suppose you'll want to do that electronically too.

Oh get a life! There's a very good reason why the social welfare went back to paying JSA/JSB through the post office.

If you're unemployed it's really not a big deal for you to get up out of bed and go to the post office once a week to collect your money.

I think this is the issue

    This must be a wind-up.

What possible argument is there against such a simple, cost effective, efficient monitoring measure.
