Wireless internet access in the library is shocking

I don't care how busy it is around this time of year, I really shouldn't have to wait 5 minutes to download at 200kb PDF file. It's taking an average of 30-45 seconds to load up a random webpage too, and I know it's not just my laptop because others are having serious problems too.

No wonder all the computers are snapped up so quickly when you don't have near the same kind of difficulties.

Edit: Quickened up a good bit now, seems to just come and go.

If there is a free laptop bay, you could plug the ethernet in there. I'm usually in early in the morning, so I usually get a bay. The ethernet is fine.

Wireless access all over the campus is shocking, which is why ethernet is always preferred. I blame those tools who sit around all day playing Fagville or whatever it's called on Fagbook.

Off topic, but this is the reason why many colleges ban facebook, bebo, etc, over the christmas. Seriously, get 20 or so people, and goto your college head, and ask for them to be blocked over xmas, and they may do it. Nothing worse than needing to do work, and finding that 75% of the computers are using Facebook to talk to each other :(

I don't really want them blocked. Shot, maybe. At least that doesn't infringe on my freedom to traverse the internets.

Here's a quick formula from the Ferdy book of management:
    1. Install wireless network for laptops
    2. Notice that it works well for the small number who use it
    3. Decide that students don't need computer labs and close some of them down - in the library, rip out 50% of your PC capacity, causing more users to get on the wireless system.
    4. Don't upgrade said system to cope with demand so can save money
    5. Laugh manically as you head off into the sunset to be made Provost of TCD.

I would also quote from the Ferdy book of staff relations except for the ongoing legal cases. :D

Well if you've only ever used wireless on your laptop you need to setup a wired connection.

    google it.
