Christmas Present - Golf Lessons

    Hi folks,

I want to buy a series of lessons for my brother for christmas and I have 100-120e to spend.

He plays off 12 with a reasonable swing.

He hasnt had any lessons in the past 6/7 years so I'm looking for recommendations for a decent pro in or around the dublin area that is a good all rounder and can really instill some lasting fundamentals over a series of lessons. Not looking for gimicky quick fix type pros.

I appreciate that there are a number of similar post to this but the info may be out of date. The names that I found are as follows:

    Brendan McDaid
    Neil Manchip
    Tristan Mullally

Any comments on the above or possible alternatives would be very much appreciated. Please also let me know if I am way off in terms of price too.

    Cheers

Brendan McDaid and Neil Manship are very good but you will pay accordingly. Don't know anything about Tristain Mullaly but don't even waste your time with Kevin Beirth!

I can only speak from experience and it’s not the first time I’ve said this on here but I’d recommend that Tristan Mullally fella. I think he does a bit of work with the GUI.

McDaid and Manchip not sure of their price but will cost a fortune (both great teachers I’m sure), from what I know Manchip is heavily involved in Carton House with the GUI, McDaid also I think. Don’t know the other fella your talking about.

    Hi moesymo

I'm looking for lessons too as a Christmas present. I heard Michael Allan in Leopardstown Golf Club was very good. Can anyone here recommend him?

    thanks

    call arnold at elm green
if you buy in bulk he'll include a serious discount

To be honest, that guy Arnold in Elm Green is exactly the type of guy I'm trying to avoid.

I've had a couple of lessons with him and found him absolutely terrible. One of these "old school of thought" type of guys. He watched me hit five shots and commented when I hit a good one saying that it was "much better that time" without providing any theory or fundamental detail at all. Cheers!

I'm looking for a more modern pro if possible and I'm just trying to get a sense of other people's experiences on here to see who in the Dublin area are considered effective teachers.

    Thanks again.

I'm based in the D15 area but my brother lives out in Sutton.

Video playback can be useful but I wouldn't consider it a pre requisite by any means.

I've only heard good things about Dave Lavelle in Spawell. I had one from Anthony Martin in Kinsealy Grange (Portmarnock area) and he was fine.

OK, you have Anthony Martin or Karl Herbert in Kinsealy Grange quite close to him, full launch monitor/video analysis setup if he wants it.

If hes a good player and needs some high level tuning try John Kelly in St Margarets, John Dwyer in Ashbourne or Shane O'Grady in Black Bush.

Has anyone had lessons at the Metrogolf indoor golf place in Grand Canal Dock? One of their packages is 5 30 min lessons for €160.

The 3 pros there are Tony Judd, Stephen Rayfus and Alan O'Sullivan.

In my opinion getting indoor lessons is a waste of time, you really need to see and feel the flight of a golf ball.

There is good value out there at the moment for sets of lessons at ranges, far cheaper than e160.

My one and only lesson with Brendan Mcdaid included him starting a stopwatch at the start and abruptly ending the lesson on the 30min alarm. I rest my case there, Manchip is a good coach but too far up his bum to bother with anyone but a good player, I grew up playing golf with Tristan Mullally and a nicer guy you will never meet. My 2 cents.....

Cheers for the advice. Will start looking into range lessons instead so I reckon.
