Ok i usually watch this event every year but have never placed a bet on it before but i was having look on Paddypower and some very generous odds for a few e/w bets

Phil Taylor is clear favourite at 1/3 followed by James Wade 8/1 and Gary Anderson 12/1.

I think i will have a few bets on this myself this year but will not be back any of the above, i do think James Wade is a good bet each way.

I think value for money on each way bet with some very generous odds on the offering are below.

Wayne Mardle 200/1 usually always does well at this tournament and would be worth backing e/w.

Peter Manley 200/1, another one who loves this tournament and should get to the last 4, might even get to the final as has done before and always plays well.

Ronnie Baxter 100/1 has lost his form the last few years and again went out early last year after some high promise, again e/w looks good but not sure yet.

Mark Dudbrige 150/1 went close last year and played well through out.

Kevin Painter 80/1 again always does well and usually raises his game for this tournament, but won't win as he's not strong mentally and the occasion might get to him nice odds a e/w.

Anyone has other thoughts please free to add. I'm no expert but would like to think i have an idea and could win some money.

You say you watch this every year.....but do you follow the sport during the year?

Mardle - awful! Been playing crap and he'll go out in 1st couple of rounds.

Manley - done nothing all year.

Baxter - been having a resurgence in form! Maybe back to some of the best form at stages this year. If he goes into the tournament throwing well he could really do well. Got himself to world # 7

Dudbridge - too inconsistant for my liking, don't think he will be able to hold form for a long tournament. Can play brilliant 1 day and be shockin the next.

Painter - good thrower, probably get to later stages. Could do some damage towards end depending on who he plays against.

I've not had a chance to study the draw. Theres a number of players can back EW if on opposite side of draw to Taylor. If anyone is on same side don't bother wasting your money. I hope to have a chance either tonight or tomorrow at the draw

Nope, i keep an eye for results but usually only watch the PDC

I never thought of that, you'd be right and i agree. I still be backing what i have posted up but will have look at your tips and what you suggest tomorrow.

I have Taylor backed at 3/2
Best best i the field at the minute.

There may be a good "reach the SF/final bet once the draw is made"

Here is the opposite side of draw(from Taylor) if your intrested. Took me a while to find that

    (2) Raymond van Barneveld –v- Warren Parry
    (31) Tony Eccles –v- Brendan Dolan
    (15) Kevin Painter –v- Mensur Suljovic
    (18) Vincent van der Voort –v- Dylan Duo
    (7) Ronnie Baxter –v- Haruki Muramatsu/Krzysztof Kciuk
    (26) Jamie Caven –v- Gary Anderson
    (10) Colin Lloyd –v- Magnus Caris/Francisco Ruiz
    (23) Denis Ovens –v- Tomas Seyler/Shi Yongsheng
    (6) Terry Jenkins –v- Paul Nicholson
    (27) Andy Smith –v- Darin Young
    (11) Colin Osborne –v- Simon Whitlock
    (22) Wayne Jones –v- Alex Roy
    (3) James Wade –v- Steve Brown
    (30) Michael van Gerwen –v- Peter Wright
    (14) Andy Hamilton –v- Phillip Hazel/Osmann Kijamet
    (19) Steve Beaton –v- Carlos Rodriguez

 where? I've been on oddschecker for last 4/5 days checking regulary and Taylor has been odds on with everyone (currently best price 4/11 pre tournament).

ok, my selections follow (all each way, 1/2 odds, 1&2 places), all odds currently for bet365. Few sites offer better odds, but various reasons I've went through bet365. Not been a lot of darts played recently so hard to know who's on form and who's not, I've tried to judge on how players have been rest of the year.

First 2 picks are on same side of draw as Taylor, just bit of interest if he happens to get beat.

Wes Newton 400/1(through PP), great odds for a good player. Sometimes not a big stage player and could run into Lewis in 2nd round.

Mark Walsh 80/1. Good player, came back from back dartitus really well. Playing great earlier in year(won 2/3 players championships) and think he's beaten Taylor twice this year.

    Following in bottom of draw:-
Terry Jenkins 45/1. Probably the most consistant player after Taylor over last few seasons both on stage and on floor. Never won a major tournament but got to loads of finals, should get to 1/4s at very least.

Simon Whitlock 66/1. He's a really good player, one of the best to come over from BDO recently. Playing Colin Osborne(80/1) in 1st round which I've also backed. Whichever wins could go well this year. Osborne's form has been good all year, got to final only to be beaten by Taylor few months back.

Ronnie Baxter 110/1. Form has came back since last years world championship when he was very unlucky to get beaten by Barney. Missed doubles for the game that time. Likes the big tournaments and big stage, at these odds worth a little bet.

Andy Hamilton 66/1. If he's on top form he can really push a lot of players far. Used to be practise partner with Taylor so he can handle himself.

Kevin Painter 90/1. Ex world finalist(beaten by Taylor), consistancy has been lacking a bit this year but think that depends on confidence. If he keeps his cool(not letting crowd get to him) and is hitting his scores then could really do well. Well experienced on big stage aswell.

I think this year could be very open, there are a lot of players in with a shout of getting far, I've just tried to get a decent price on few players who could do well.

Don't think any point at all betting the top 3, Taylor's odds are not good enough even if he will more than likely win, Wade's attitude can be poor at times(he doesn't practise!) and Barney's confidence goes out the window if he starts missing any shots. Also Anderson(4th fav) is a big scorer(180s) but his doubles are wild, also went out in 1st round of BDO championships 5 times. Known to suffer from pressure and still getting used to big stage, could go out early.

Anyway, these are my thoughts, lets enjoy a great tournament!

Well Devastator i have backed all the above before i even saw this post. I found the draw as i never thought it before, school boy error.

I see Wayne Mardle lost this evening in straight sets, i'm quite surprised but you said yourself he was playing badly.

heard the result last night, didn't get to see any of the darts last night :(

Edit :- Done King 3-0 in a double tonight with Higuain to score for R Madrid.

    Taken -4.5 180s in the Manley/Jenkins match. Added 4 180's

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,480 ✭✭✭Devastator

The odds on match betting is crap!

So think I'll be sticking to over/under on the 180s, over/under checkouts and the odd correct score bet throughout the championships.

Looking at the following for this afternoon

    Eccles/Dolan under 4.5 180s
    Dudbridge/Welge under 5.5 180s
    Walsh/Webster under 6.5 180s

Just short of 6/1 for treble

Looking at the following for this afternoon

    Eccles/Dolan under 4.5 180s - 3 180s
    Dudbridge/Welge under 5.5 180s - 1 180s
    Walsh/Webster under 6.5 180s - 6 180s

Just short of 6/1 for treble

    result in bold

    tonight:-
    Painter/Suljovic under 6.5 180s 5/6 & Cavan/Anderson under 7.5 180s evens

Both could go close, but hope not over. Anderson more than capable hitting 5 or more himself in any given match.

taken this from football thread, match already gone, YOung 3-2, highest checkout 121(Smith) & 8 180's, so got 2/3 and in profit(so far).
Went for Darin Young win 3-2 at 10/3.....thats if the stage can hold him and the pie man eek.gif
Also went for over 115.5 checkout and under 7.5 180s(singles)

Beaton I might go for 3/1 win at 5/2 and under 6.5 180s at 8/11

Whitlock/Osborne is too close to call IMO(on paper), so I'll go with whoever wins the bull to take it 3/2.

Until the last set, 6 180s, load of 140s

Gone for Osborne 3-2(7/2) and over 119.5 checkout(8/11)

    C'MON THE WIZARD!!

still ahead, nothing but match bet available on Ovens/VDR game. Think Ovens will be too good, but no point at 1/3. Out of interest I'll say Ovens 3-1.

Whitlock played great, some great checkouts from hit, nice little 93 at end too take it aswell. Good player, opposite side of draw from Taylor, could give this a push this year.

definetly could see whitlock at least in the semis if he continues to play like that! think il go for a van gerwen and caris double tonight.

He needs a good tournament(same as few other players *ahem* Lewis), think people are sick of hearing about 'potential' of certain players. He has no excuses, he's been in the venue last couple of nights watching his mates so knows what to expect.

    Tonight I'm on Jones/Roy & VG/Wright games under 5.5 180's and Wade/Brown over 116.5 checkout. Treble pays about 4.5/1 on PP.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,480 ✭✭✭Devastator

Must have picks for Monday :-
John Part v Kirk Shepherd over 126.5 checkout 5/6
    Ronnie Baxter v Gary Anderson over 10.5 180s 8/11

Part's finishing in 1st round was excellant, Shepherd more than capable of picking off a shot.
Both Baxter and Anderson are more than capable of getting into double figures themselves so between them should comfortably see 11 or more in a game that could go the distance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,014 ✭✭✭dotsflan

was looking at todays games and this is what i came up with!!

    Colin lloyd to win @2/5
    Part v Shepard 10 or more 180's 5/6
Peter manley to get more 180's then webster @ 3/1, i feel its overpriced and webster can be inconsistent so im hoping he has an off day:D

well that was beat! Part was awful against Shepherd, very poor performance and a pish poor game.

Decided to still go for Ronnie Baxter v Gary Anderson over 10.5 180s 8/11, odds have changed to 4/6 for single. Here we go....

Lloyd was very very lucky! Very lucky indeed  Ovens missed about 14 match doubles!!
Manley 180 bet came in! Good call, 1-0 :D Great comeback from 2-0 by Webster, couldn't hit the lipstick though :P Again Part as said above, shocking preformance, both beaten by it  Don't like Shepherd, apparently he was caught on camera saying "pr.ck" when Part was throwing :(

after yesterday just bout broke even thanks to manleys 1-0 on most 180's :D

the only bet that stands out today is taylor to beat thornton 4-0! @ 5/6 i think thats great value. id have priced this @4/7 or even 1/2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,014 ✭✭✭dotsflan

Damn Taylor yesterday!! missed 2 darts at double 8 for a 4-0 win!!

Onto today, gone for a treble of webster, stompe and whitlock.
and stompe to have more 180's then dudbridge @ 11/10. that price is too big in my opinion, stompe scored 5 in the last round and dudbridge only got 2 and played an extra set!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,261 ✭✭✭Juwwi

9/4 painter in ladbrokes to beat barnie tonightlooks good value.

Gone for a Whitlock 6/5 and Webster @ 10/11 double in the first 2 matches!

I feel that if stompe starts as slowly as he did in his last match then webster could steel a march on him and stompe might not recover!

And i think the prices dont reflect the form in the whitlock wade match, so i think whitlock is value. While i didnt see the wade hamilton match from what ive read hamilton seem to lose his bottle! Thats one thing which whitlock has in abundance!

And another bet that stands out to me is Whitlock most 180's @ 1/1

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,480 ✭✭✭Devastator

I've stayed away from match betting, partly due to think both early games will be close and still have Whitlock tournament bet running.

I got chinned in last round with betting

    I've gone for(double):- CO Stompe most 180s(8/13) & Wade over 7.5 180s (8/11)

Meant to put Whitlock over 7.5 180s....but somehow put Wade by mistake. Bet looks beat before the off with Wade really struggling on the trebles in last match.

Baxter normally is quite big scorer, but noticed this week he is switching to 19s more often than before. Barney's inconsistancy also, makes it difficult to make any sort of call in this game!

After a good day yesterday, theres only one bet that really stands out today and thats Whitlock to hit more 180's then barney @ 4/5! Considering the way Whitlock was hitting the red bit yesterday, i would have priced him up as a 1/2 shot to win this duel.

Also a small punt on Whitlock to win 6-4 @ 5/1

gt the under 180s right in Baxter/Barney game, but highest CO in Taylor?lewis game was 108 :( Disappointed with that, expected a lot of big checkouts.

Yeah, couldnt believe Whitlock was favorite considering the reputation Barney has. I've not had a chance to really look at bets yet(will do later), but your pick(180s) look like good possibility

Yeah i was hoping that whitlock would be at least evens or 11/10 but the bookies have gone with form rather then reputation, so i make 4/6 about right for whitlock:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,261 ✭✭✭Juwwi

Whitlock at 4/6 and taylor -4.5 sets at 8/11 in a double for me it pays nearly 2/1.

the more l think about the taylor bet it looks the best 8/11 shot lve seen in a long time.u have 6-0 6-1 and 6-2.

usually when something looks to good to be true it usually is but l cant see webster winning 3 sets. in fact l fancy 6-0.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,014 ✭✭✭dotsflan

does -4.5sets mean that if webster wins 2 sets then the bets gone? so if taylor wins 6-2 then webster wins on the handicap?

This is a 3/1 shot (give or take tiny bit) and will be about the price either will be against Taylor unless one or the other average a 105 or so in winning.

I don't think there'll will be a lying opprtunity here.

    I could be wrong though.

Looks at the odds on betair

I have backed Witlock at 9 & Barney at 15

I will be able to lay one of them in the final at 3 easy for a guarnted profit I think

Ok, this is a much better proposition than the 13/2 & 8/1 you said earlier. The above is essentially a 5/1 shot on either in the final as opposed to 3/1 on the first posted odds.

Edit: The odds on Betfair would indicate that Taylor will be about 1.20 for the final with 5/1 the other side.

Same as y'day in terms of total 180s, don't think there will be 22 or more .... but if Barney looks up for it that could easily go. I just really want Whitlock to win, because Taylor - Barney III would be boring. Barney is not mentally right to play Taylor in a final, therefore to hopefully get a decent final I want Whitlock through.

    AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE!!!

Gone for Whitlock 13 or more 180s at 10/11. Fingers crossed....bit skint and really can't afford any gambling from now till pay day(March ) ;)

I'm daft! After thinking to myself pre tournament that bet365 seemed to be really good for darts odds(all but 1 tournament winner done through bet365), I've been using PP the whole tournament

Did actually remember about bet365 earlier(same time I posted) and was same price on there(8/13)

    3 Whitlock 180's so far.....10 to go

Would it be better to lay Whitlock now or after the next semi?
