Alan Gaffney basically confirms that he is leaving Leinster at the end of the season and confirms Joe schmidt is going to be coach. He says because Joe is a backs coach he will want control of them.

He says this in a tv3 interview, the interview is quite long. Its said around the 8 minute mark

Good spot Goose. He has being okay with Leinster, the backs seem to be getting better as of late in fairness. Would he go to Connacht?

Hmm.. id say so. He will remain within the irish set up in some way i would imagine. Unless he is leaving his position at international level, which i dont think he will.

He seemed to say that talks were going well to remain with the Irish team. Would be great to keep him in Ireland.

A move to Connacht would be amazing for them, keeping a similar role to the one he has with Leinster now.

Wonder if that was a bit of a slip up mentioning that Schmidt basically has the job?

he'd be a very good appointment out west, maybe providing a bit of experience working with Elwood and McFarland.

Seems like according to that interview he'll still be involved with Ireland, unless I misunderstood him.

I think (hope) the backs will benefit from a refreshing new approach when Schmidt arrives. Hopefully the rest of the coaching staff will remain in place.

He is 63 not so I would say the Ireland job is enough for him.

Would make a great full time coach with Connacht. Any chance him coming back to Munster as a backs coach?

He wouldn't be their head coach if he's still going to be involved with the Irish team.
