    Hi all,

I am thinking of running a marathon for specific charity. If its not one of the charities connected can i still do it.

Should i just approch the charity in question and ask them about it.

Just get your marathon place and then send off for sponsorship forms from that charity. Once you're not applying for a 'charity' place you can run for whoever you want if you run for anyone at all.

Well, I've run twice for charity, both times for the Irish Cancer Society so after I entered the race I downloaded a form from their website, filled in my details, the race I was running in, how many sponsorship cards I wanted etc..

You can also set up a web page on mycharity.ie if it's an Irish charity.

Just get in touch with the charity you would like to run it for and they will be only too happy to send you out sponsorship forms. If they offer a t-shirt for you to run in DO NOT accept this offer unless you like bleeding nipples.

I wear the tops underneath that are too tight for men with bellies so i'm ok:D

Did Cork last year. Signed up first and then contacted the charity i was going to raise money for, Crumlin Children's Hospital. They sent me on all the details, cards, posters for work, etc.

+1 on the charity t-shirt. Leave it for after the race. Cork seems to be run in a heatwave so the less material the better. Saw a fella in Dublin this year after 21 miles with blood streaming down his top who was running for charity. God it looked terrible.
