Hi,

They are two different games with two different but intertwining stories.

Just think of ODST as filling in the gaps of HALO 3 but can be enjoyed even if you have never played HALO 3.

It is a really good buy at this price.

In the old days these were refered to as "expansion packs" as they use the same engine and textures but just add new missions.

These days they're released as new games like this or as DLC(downloadable content)
