Cooked Chicken in the fridge

Hi, I want to up my protein intake and dont want to use expensive supplements. I have a friendly/cheap butcher nearby, who does good deals on chicken breasts. I was thinking of cooking a batch of them in the oven on a sunday night and then refridgerating them, so I could take one to work with me each day for a snack.

So, my question is this...if I cook a chicken breast, how long will it last in the fridge before going off?

Also, is it Ok to take it out of the fridge for half an hour while I commute to work (where I pop it back in the fridge until lunch)?

I don't want to get food poisoning!

You're going to have a chicken breast every day for lunch? You should really vary that, as it'll get a bit boring for you after a while. Maybe alternate between chicken, turkey, fish etc.
My mum cooks a chicken on Sundays and pops it into the fridge (after its cooled) and its there for lunches during the week if anyone wants it. It usually keeps for the week with no problems (it won't go mouldy etc for a while). Thats for the whole family tho (three of them at home) and they wouldn't eat it every day for lunch.
What I do is I buy my meat for dinners at the start of each month and put each portion in individual plastic ziplock bags in the freezer, then each night I take out one and leave it on a plate in the fridge to defrost.

Just FYI: Gram for gram of protein, whey is *substantially* cheaper than chicken. It's one of the reasons I started using it.

Don't think you'd get a week out them like that. I tend to slice chicken breasts thinly, so you can throw them straight into the pan or under the grill without needing to thaw. Or take them out ahead of time and marinate in something interesting.

assuming the chicken is fresh and put in fridge after cooking then you could get two days, i wouldnt risk anything more TBH .. it only takes 20 minutes to boil a chicken fillet so surely you could do it the night before for next day?

I personally really wouldn't go more than 2 days. I often do them two at a time - one for that night and one for the following day. So I don't go more than 24 hours myself, but I'm sure 2 days wouldn't cause death by bad chicken.
