I watched both of these PT Specials and to be honest there was nothing new in any of what they reported. The dogs on the street know there is massive amounts of public money being defrauded in our welfare system. Similarly a walk around Dublin city on any given day one can see these yokes who make a living robbing in order to feed habits. The drug dealing is plain to see also.

RTE is public service broadcaster is no doubt in feels justified in producing this type of journalism. Personally I voted trash tv. I might add they would perhaps be worth showing if our government were actually going to do something about it. Our revloving door system of justice, and taking a tenner a week of a dole cheat aint going to deter anyone from taking the chance. These type of shows appear periodically.

Is this where our politians get their cue?

Tabloid I would say. I do like investigative programs in Ireland though. We need more of these.

I actually thought it was thought provoking and funny.

They could have easily provided us with a "These are the scum of the earth" type voice over and reporting.

What they did was to look at petty criminals and didn't in any way romanticize their deals, if anything they showed the systems lack of creditability, the scourge of drugs and depression on Ireland and the hypocrisy that we have in this country towards other people.

The most interest piece of the film and the most telling was the 3 managers of the NCI surrounding one of the guy who took up a place in their college. They showed their complete ignorance to his way of life, but to me it was an uncomfortable moment for him, them and the audience.

In saying all of this - I did think it lacked any real investigation into the issues that surround petty crime, rather it was overly focus on the committing of crime and the attitudes of those committing the crimes.

Neither cutting edge nor tabloid IMO.

The primetime team are 'having fun' with microcams lately. Cheap screen time and 'stating the bleedin' obvious' voiceovers added in post production.

What did we learn from this week's programme, or last weeks for that matter. Nowt we didn't know already.

This episode isn't far removed from something you'd see on sky1 at one in the morning.
