    Hi All

can anyone advise on which bike to go for, i know its a bit early as the bikes are only out, i liked last years f4 and i like this years cayo. both bikes are similar in spec, but i thing the f4 frame has a more aggressive race geometry but the Mavic Aksium wheels on the cayo steel it over Shimano WH-RS20s. has anyone any experience with last years bikes , il be doing mainly triathlons on the bikes. Other than that can anyone recommend an alternative in 2k bracket.

I have not used them but I would have thought RS20s would be at least as good as Aksiums to be honest. Certainly wouldn't let that sway you one way or the other.

As to which to go for, I would go for neither and get a Planet X full new Ultegra 6700 for £999. I had a Cayo and it is a lovely bike but the PX is a lot better. Quite racy geometry, full Ultegra 6700 (the Cayo skips the cranks at least) and almost half the price for a better bike. Lighter than the Cayo too.

You can get them on the bike to work scheme, the only issue would be if you are going through a middleman or your employer limits you to a certain range of bike shops- which a lot of employers are doing.

what do you think of the Boardman team carbon (sram rival). if you can get over the Halfords thing, it seems a lot of bike for 1300 yoyos.

It's also excellent value and an excellent bike, (from anything I read, I don't have personal experience like I do with the PX and Cayo.) For €1300 I would certainly go for it over the Cayo or Felt either.

I'm surprised at how little love you have for the cayo. Any chance you could tell us why you prefer the P-X?

OP - I have a planet x with full ultegra (6600 not the newer 6700) and struggle to fault it on anything but cosmetic grounds (At £1000 it's ridiculously good value) but then I don't have blorg's frame of reference (9 bikes and counting I believe).

I had the Cayo and now have the PX and I just think the PX is a nicer bike to ride, seems stiffer and faster. In the standard build it is also certainly a lot lighter than the Cayo. The Cayo was a very nice bike too, I just prefer the Planet X. The PX is not miles ahead of the Cayo but it is a bit better I think.

Besides that though the prices of the Cayo went up massively to the point where while it used to it just doesn't represent that great value any more. The 2010 Ultegra Cayo (without Ultegra cranks) is £1,850 with the Irish VAT. This is just plain bad value compared the Planet X Ultegra at £999 (plus build charge.)

A 2009 model could represent much better value if your employer will deal with Wiggle but not PX and you get in there quick, they still have a fair few of them discounted. The Ultegra one is cheapest but if you wanted to spend a bit more the Chorus 11 one ;1,782 looks very tempting with what looks like a full Chorus groupset. Limited sizes but they also have one with a SRAM Red/Force mix and decent wheels (Mavic Ksyrium Equipes) for £1,900, in all the sizes.

The new 2010 Cayo is a new frame with a BB30 bottom bracket among the changes, it could well be very different bike.

this is getting interesting, getting some good advise here. cheers again bjorg. u seem to know ur stuff. the Boardman is starting to surface to the top. i can also get the 09 felt f4 in my local bike shop for 1500. who ever named the bike planet x really should go back to the drawing board, maybe a name with a bit of italian flair would send the sales upward. it sounds like a childs bmx rather than a race day macine. ("this would not be a deciding factor, taking nothing from the bike.)

I know looks are subjective, but IMO the latest Cayo paintjob is much better looking than the black Planet-X (but perhaps not AstraMontis lovely white one).

i'd agree, but the 09 and 10' felt's look far nicer than the 10' cayo too if your going the direction of paying more for looks :)

I have a cayo and have and I know somone who has a planet x.He took my cayo for a spin and thinks the cayo is a little quicker and stiffer?Another bike you might consider is the giant tcr advanced a little bit more expensive but better than the cayo and planet x.

I have seen one it looks fantastic and got bike off the year 2009 in cycling plus.Fast and comfortable and with giant you know its a winner.Cant comment on the felt but it seems a fab bike as well.If it comes down to the felt or the cayo I would go for the felt myself.Hope this helps.:D
