Hi, I have been looking at the reviews of both of these DSLRs and most reviewers are more or less saying that there isn't much difference between these 2 cameras. If it is your first purchase of a DSLR at least it won't really matter which way you decide. You will be happy with either, just remember that if you stick with photography there are millions of options with both brands when you wish to add lens etc.
    Good luck

    Hi,

FYI I bought an Olympus E450 double zoom kit from CDiscount in Dundalk for 379 last weekend. It has a 14-42mm lens and a 40-150mm lens. Cheapest I could find it online was £499.00 sterling. I'm a newbie also and was looking for a brand at a price. The extra lens sealed the deal for me.

You are buying into a system when you get your first SLR Camera. Most people remain in that system from then on. Both the Nikon & Canon systems are very good & they share a majority of the market.

I shoot Nikon but I have met those who shoot Canon & they are fine ordinary folk*

Go to a bricks and mortar shop and handle both of them. You will most likely find you prefer the ergonomics of one over the other. Both are fine cameras and good systems, so you want go wrong either way.

Absolutely agree with the poster who said go and feel the different models in your hands and see which you prefer. Either are a safe choice regardless and only gob****es argue over them.

i would choose the nikon d3000. the 450d was released in jan 2008 and the nikon d3000 is only a few months old. the technology has come a long way in almost 2 years. they are both good camera but i'd go for the newer one. like other people said go in and have a feel, see how you like them. you can also read som in depth reviews here:

there's samples and all you'll ever need to know about those cameras. good luck.
