Annual Awards?

Yes its coming up to that time of year again...

We had our mid term votes for thread, poster, athlete and performance of the year but now it's possibly time for the biggie, the Boards ART awards.

I'm up to my oxters in work and am away over Xmas (recession be damed I have a CC and I know how to max it :D) so ideally I'd like someone else to babysit it, but I can do it if no-one else will...

What we need is agreement on the categories of award (I would say keep it to those 4), someone to collect the nominations and pick the (up to) 4 most popular nominees in each category. After that we start a poll and it's all good.

Any volunteers? Any thoughts on additional categories (maybe a debut of teh year? Photo of the year seems popular too)

This is strictly for Boardsies by the way, so ABC kenyan or XYZ elite are outside scope unless they post on here.

HM, is this a posting debut or a racing debut ?

I assumed it was a racing début when nominating.

We could have a "n00b of the Year" category for the best new poster but the forum has grown so much over the last year that I think most of the regulars would be eligible for it

yeah, I think debut race (or at least running, some people don't race but do hit significant goals off the race track) for the debut award.

Just to clarify another thing that is coming in, nominations should be restricted to boardsies. I've a couple of nominations for Sonia O Sullivan and Usain Bolt.

24 hours left to vote for your favourites. Some runaway successes to date but a couple are coming down to a single vote at the moment.

    ahem!

Thread of the year no surprise here - 1000 mile thread with almost half the votes

Poster of the year - Tergat

Athlete of the year. This one was close run but in the end Bazman won by a single vote. Well done.

Performance of the year - Enduro at the World 24 hours

Photo of the year, another mention for Bazman in Woddle's (??) photo of him at the end of a track race.

Debut of the year this was another very close run race with MCOS taking it from Rainbow Kirby by a single vote.

    Congrats to everyone.

Are you suggesting that people spend time on this site when they should be working?;)

It just struck me that we missed out on a category for Awards time, and it may not be too late to have a mini poll on the subject of:- post of the year / race report of the year. Which post on any thread stood out to you? The ones which stick in my memory are the race reports but others could have other ideas? What d'ya think?

Great idea - do you want to pull it together? :)

Something tells me that the 1000 mile thread could form a monopoly on this award over the coming years, similar to what xfactor did to the christmas number 1 for years!

Happy to. If people PM me with suggestions of what individual posts/race reports made most impact with them I'll take it from there.

A week from today I'll sub-list the 5 favs and a poll can take place on that.

Last year it was a new, great idea. This year it's just the same thing with a 2010 in the title so won't count

I am waiting for Woddles next great idea though

You might need to post a new thread on it - this one may not get the traffic
