Best box to get for Sky or Sky +

    Hi,

I'm coming home to Ireland for Christmas and I'm looking to get a Satellite box that I can stick an Irish Sky card in and bring back to Germany with me. I need my RTE!

Can anyone recommend somewhere around the Dublin area that I can pick up a reciever for Sky or Sky+?

As far as I know, all I have to do is call Sky and set up a subscription to my Irish house, get the card activated when I'm in Ireland then bring the box back to Germany with me and hook it up to a Satellite. Is it as easy as that or am I missing out on something?

I don't really want to call Sky up and get the whole installation package. Do I have to look for a Sky box or is there other boxes out there that'll accept the Sky card?

    Any help is appreciated guys!

    Cheers

I heard it needs to be for it to be activated, but then if I have any problems all I have to say is I got rid of my landline?

A few of the lads over here have it set up... am I missing something?

Only need a landline for multiroom.

You're going to need a Sky box to get the card paired to and no use trying one that's already tied to a sub.

Also and even though there are a lot of non sky boxes out there that you can use your sky card, very few will update the card as well.

Get a s/h Sky+ off ebay, order your sub, pair the card (you don't even need a phone line to pair the box) and then bring it all back with you, easy!

i think you will only need a landline if you get a subsidised box, ie a freebie or a box for 49 etc. but I am not sure on this, it may have changed since I first signed up

if you get a second hand box yourself from ebay or somewhere, just call sky to say you want to sub up and they will send you out a card. then just activate it (is a phone line needed for this bit??) and then bring it all back to Germany with you

You dont need a phone line anymore

(unless you want multiroom, the op dosnt. so no phone required)
