Attention being paid to wages

It would appear to me that the innordinate attention which we pay to wages in Ireland dilutes any real political opportunity for social change in the current climate.

Suddenly the entire population have become political hacks and experts! Politics has always been this important and will continue to be when we have money in our pockets again.

This was true, equally so, when the economy was vibrant and prosperous. No, we were recieving more money and therefore failed to question whether we deserved it or not.

Sundays will soon be spent purchasing uneccessary consumer goods again, instead of reading newspapers and discussing policies. This will be while the fabric of the the next economic failure in Ireland is being woven by vested interests. Another missed opportunity. No meaningful social change is likely to strike Ireland for some centuries.

Our trade unions and socialists are more to blame on this issue than the capatilists! What a country! Nothing is communicated to their members more than the need to safegaurd their salaries - the salary a union leader being that of a company executive anyway. They cannot speak for their members as they are no longer of them. They are hypocrites. Noone is as over paid in Ireland as they are yet they speak with the moral conviction of James Larkin's social ancestor. I repeat, hypocrites!

Also, the issue of wages and salary was used to divide ordinary working families into public and private sector. What a state sponsored, maufactured debate that is!

If you fell for it you are a sheep - no mind of your own. The decision was made months ago to cut public sector wages (an economic neccesity due to the previous greed of unions leaders and our "money for everyone!" leader). The fire was stoked by the government and media from day one until they, once more, made ordinary families pay for their economic mismanagement. "Welcome to the real world" cried one half of the masses. I despair.

Im a member of siptu ( compulsory in my job) and i would love to stop paying my fee to them each week as i think they are a load of self serving idiots.

I was laid out for 4 weeks this year, temporary layoffs in the job. This was negotiated by siptu for us but not once did they offer to forego our fees for that month. They still wanted their silver even though i was on the dole.

At least Cowen and the ministers have taken sizable pay cut. These bearded bosses have taken no pain.

They are on the radio day after day saying that the evidence of pay cuts in the private sector points to only 10% of people taking a cut despite the fact that they negotiated my pay cut in a company of over 500 and also in many other companies i know of.

Self serving Bast$eds is all they are (sorry 4 the language) feathering their own nests.

Im completely disillusioned with the unions and no longer want to be associated with them.
