I would stretch and get a 3Gs iPhone ,but if your mind is set on a touch , and you said you have mobile Internet at home ( a USB broadband stick I presume) then you can turn your laptop/ pc into a "Internet hotspot" and share out your mobile Internet to your itouch.
This will give you wifi Internet access on your itouch , at the same speed as your p.c

Depending on your operating system , Google " turn my laptop into a Internet hotspot" , I have full video/link instructions on my work p.c , don't have them here now ( using my 3gs) , try google , if you have no luck give me a bell back.

    Good luck.

    p.s I am presuming your p. c has wireless

Good question.... I would say the counter on laptop 1 would show the amount if usage for all devices ( laptop 2 , psp , itouch etc) , download something on laptop 2 and see if the usage changes on laptop1 .

What errors did the psp show when it failed to connect?

I have shared out my connection with 3 phones ( 2 3gs and a android) and 1 2nd gen itouch all at once , using vodafone and windows xp.
    No reason why it shouldn't

p.s I have never tried a psp , wouldn't even know were to direct you

I've decided to get one aswell as an xmas present for the OH, Amazon coming in at €245 delivered, which seems a good price, anyone know anywhere selling it in Ireland at this price?

Hard to get one that price in Ireland unless you go north. The apple store have it for €279 delivered but they'll give you free engraving as well ( extra brownie - ponts if its a gift!)
Go via bethrifty.ie for cashback and take some of the sting out of it!
