Has anyone tried advertising on Facebook; and how effective has it been?

We use it in work and I dont think it warrants our business. software and hardware solutions business.

Facebook charge us $14 a month for the last 6 month and I just checked there and we got 19 visits from facebook.

Dosent work for us but that is not saying it would be good for you.
I have to think that when people are searching on Google then they will click on search links and when on Facebook people arent in search mode.

dont bother, its more a branding / communications excercise, what are you trying to sell?

you can pay per click. i pay 2 cent everytime someone clicks on my link

ive had over 6 million impressions and 2,000 clicks and i still have money left from 50 USD

i believe its the best form of advertising ive ever spent money on online.

i started a site, got free facebook advertising as part of the hosting deal.

its a forum which now has over 150 registered members on daily with no other form of adverting apart from facebook

so yes it is good. if used properly

a click through rate of 0.0003% - thank you for making my point :P

anyway, you dont have a commercial angle to your campaign

I was stressing that its more of a communications tool, maybe a good fit for what you are promoting, a forum

    good point.

depends on what your using it for i suppose.

i would have thought that if you own something like a hairdressers in any town, being able to target people in that town and being guaranteed a certain amount of people are going to see it would be affective

if it makes every girl in the town aware theres a new hairdressers its 50 quid well spent

how far would 50 go in a newspapers. tiny ad in the back somewhere

the default is around 70 cent a click but that can be lowered down to 2 cent

just go in when you create a campaign and move it to 2 cent. simple

Oh Right Its for amount of impressions etc. I thought you had to contact their Advertising Dept.

Must have a look into it, I feel it may be suitable for my business.

all you need is a facebook account. the link to advertise is on top of the ads on the right

make sure as soon as you set it up you move the cpc right down.

i made the mistake my first time of not lowering it down and they took 7 dollars for ten clicks. im assuming thats what there doing with the guy at the start of the thread who pays a few dollars a month for a few clicks

as said already its not for everyone but if its for you it can be very affective

I'd say it could be useful to drive traffic to your facebook page to convert them into fans, for later conversion and monetization. You'll obviously need something noteworthy and update it regularly. This can work, but you should always measure. People are not on facebook to buy stuff, the motive is different to doing a google search.

I've actually just signed up for this tonight. Not going to cost a fortune. What I have done is made a small advert for my xbox live codes. It has to be cleared first by the marketing department, but that shouldn't be a problem. Shops are selling these for bout €50, so it should catch the eye and send a few people my way.

Facebook advertising is very useful for branding. You need to make sure your image contains your logo and get that in as many peoples faces as possible.

The ad targeting in Facebook is unreal. You can really segment down to your audience but you might as well as go as broad as possible because it doesn't cost much to advertise.

If you're expecting any click thrus though, forget about it. Our best ad has a CTR of 0.103%.

The fan page advertising solution is great too. You only pay on conversion. So if you advertise your fan page, you only pay when someone clicks thru and joins your fan page. Great way of retaining interest from users and building your community.

Suppose it depends on who you're targeting.

We advertise both the Yankee.ie & giftmaster.ie sites on facebook but not casinoshop.ie

For the past 4 weeks it has given us a near equal reponse to our google advertising but at about 40% less cost.

I believe this is primarily due to the better targeting methods in facebook - male/female, age, marital status etc.

Has anyone here advertised a service like a Hairdressers or anything similar on Facebook?

id imagine it would be effective enough for advertising something like that, but is it in practice?

Only one way to find out! :)
Put a fiver into an account and try out some ad & graphic combinations (maybe 4 or 5?) and see which one attracts the most clicks.

Quick update since last night.... Have gotten 3 clicks so far. Its literally costing me nothing. Have four new memebers on my fan page. So if all goes well I should start seeing some results next week. Can anyone give me any advice on where I should advertise this?

You could advertise on the XBOX forum within boards.ie!
    Create a Google Adwords account.
Choose to advertise on the content network.
Select that you only want to advertise in this forum
Select your ad type (banner 468*60 + leaderboard)
Design a nice and eye-catching advert.
    Away you go!

I'd say you could end up paying approx .15 cent per click. But the ads are quite targeted and will probably convert well if they click thru and find a compelling reason to click 'become a fan'.

My recommendation would be to run the ad for a day with a budget of 5 euro just to see how well the act reacts.

(we're going to be running ads on boards.ie in a similar way tomorrow, I can pass you on the data if you wish for a single day)
