And the soccer player guy on now just told us that Roy Keane called him a ****er when he left his club by text, when he just text him saying thanks for everything.

Kids of that age shouldn't be up this late, it's past the watershed.

Back in my day i'd have killed to be let stay up and watch Dallas. I'd consider The Late Late as punishment TBH

So what if he said it, any child that is young enough to believe in santa could easily be molly coddled with some yarn about how he's only messing blarg blarg....

Ahh still, it's common sense. It's near Christmas, it's the Late Late Show, parents are staying in having a drink, the family is gathered in the sitting room watching the Late Late Show, it's Friday night. And then...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,136 ✭✭✭JohnnyChimpo

honestly, who cares? if a kid is swayed in his Santy-belief by the opinions of some ole lad on TV, then he's probably at the age when he questions things anyway. I was 6 when i figured it out and it didn't warp me or ruin Christmas or anything. people...

When you think about it what harm is it anyway. They'll eventually find out.

Tubridy tried to get him out of the hole yet Gabriel went back on saying about "Daddy chomping on the biscuits" and "aww come on you don't all believe!"

Its alright don't panic...parents who are irresponsible enough to have kids up this late will have them in the pub with them...they won't be able to hear the telly.

    I care.

In fact it probably did warp how you see Christmas and the whole Santa/parent/child relationsip - I mean, you hardly come across as a bundle of joy and full of the Christmas spirit.

I've the sweetest 14yr old daughter who was sitting looking at the show with me, she thought Byrne was an awful idiot and said "Dad, I don't believe Santa brings ALL the presents to everyone but I do believe in Santa" - these moments are precious to a parent.

    Have to agree :D

As for Santa not being real. Of course he's not, he's magic.

Did she mean a Jolly old man that knows everything she does?

    Or the Santa Spirit?

I believe in the Santa Spirit, my parents are Santa, that kind of thing! :) As long as I still get surprise presents for Christmas I will believe in that!!

Really ? She still believes at 14 ?

Ok I have to say - I'm a total cynic on Santa. I found out from another kid and I honestly believed it altered my relationship to my parents to learn they lied to me about it to get me to act how they wanted. If I ever have kids I'd seriously seriously consider not giving them this false believe to begin with (the only thing holding me back being other peoples kids)

Its only one of the millions of reasons I said she's the "sweetest 14 yr old", now I'm not going to develope upon this for you or anyone else's entertainment.

In regards the show, another great show by Ryan T.

When he was playing the hapless father in Into The West he told the two sons that Santa doesn't visit caravans.

I heard Santa isnt real on some radio show in the morning on the way in to school once (About 10/11 years ago), now I had known for years before that, watching my dad frantically say it's just a joke to try and undo any damage done was hilarious :)

    No uproar then.......

The reason the audience booed so much when he said that was I bet because they were after telling the babysitters that their kids could stay up and watch the Late late to see if they could spot them in the audience.

However, I too think kids shouldn't be watching The Late Late ..

Anyone remember what Gay used to say when their were complaints the following week of a Late Late about how some kid saw or heard this or that??

He used to say in response .. "That's why at the start of the show folks, it says to whom it may concern ".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭marbar

ray darcy used to try and say that as well, but in the morning,. saying kids shoudln't be listening to his show

Exactly, and even that's been maybe a little harsh on the guy.

He is a massive star in the states and has better options if it was just publicity he was after.

Gabriel is not living in country for years and he was used to the Late Late when it was a hard hitting topical discussion show.

It used to be an 'adult' programme.

When I was growing up you daren't go near the sitting room when The Late was on.

There was just an air that that show was not suitable for kids.

Anyway, I was upstairs watching Minder on portable hoping to see some boobies ;)

to the guy who reckons his 14 year old believes in Santa:
She doesn't. Shes still pretending to, so that she will get presents, or so that she doesn't dissapoint you. If she has communicated in any level with her peers she knows.

    Apologies if she is special.
