What were all your merit scores like and if you don't mind non rc or rc!
If you think I'm a cheeky git, I feel much worse askin!

I was between 10 and 15, non rc. I think all the others have posted them on the other threads. Nursey was 100ish rc, I can't think of anyone elses.

That's not a cheeky question so don't worry yourself :)

Thank you nursey! Yep, excited but brickin it is right! I'm swinging from big excitement and pride at getting in one second to arrrrrrgh the next. The other thread u mentioned is a huge help and I've already started on the shopping list! Tell me this, have you guys got the actual letter/pack in the post yet? Hoping it arrives soon so I can get my notice in with my current job!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16 nursey

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18 Valky

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 85 ✭✭poppysox

I've handed in my notice already, I cudn't hold it in any longer :D

Haven't received my starter pack yet but not surprising considering all my post has been late recently.

Bought my padlocks today and a spray bottle for ironing so they can be ticked off PSNI's list......only another 500 things to go :D

Yeah sorry about the list being a bit on the long side, but it's best to go in prepared for every eventuality.

no I think the massive list is a good thing, better to be prepared :D

My car will be scraping along the road on the way to GV with the weight of my shopping :D:D

I came close to telling my boss today but so far managing to bite my tongue and stick to my original plan of waiting for the letter! Fingers crossed it'll come soon.

Yes, the big list is brilliant, although I plan to try and do most of it in a one day push after Xmas when the crowds are less. Reading the garnerville thread I'm wondering what general consensus on boots is - is it ok to go in without any and wait for the 2 pairs to be issued? Just I don't have a huge amount of cash to splash!

    Cheers guys

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14 rollinstone

I don't think you are allowed to wear non issued boots in training mate, just concentrate on getting a decent polishing kit together and I'll see ya in Jan =)

You must wear only personal issue items of uniform. Don't waste your money buying boots when you'll be getting 2 free pairs.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16 nursey

still holding fire on the notice here but not a bit motivated at work. hopefully going to have couple of weeks between jobs so shopping will be sorted then. Got to concentrate on getting some kind of fitness work in cause at the mo the rest of you will be hauling my ass round the course...soooooo bad!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16 nursey

Oh and by the way have become obsessed with the forum. First thing i check when i go on comp...Great to hear from other people in same boat

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18 Valky

Couldnt agree more about this board being great. I know no-one else applying or indeed anyone already in so the insight I've found here is much needed! Only wish I'd found it sooner:)

haven't been home yet today to check the post but here's hoping! And thanks, guys, for the advice about the boots.

My fitness is worrying me too! I thought I wasn't bad from hillwalking and a bit of yoga regularly but nope! Went to a circuit class last night and was well wrecked! Jogging also ain't my favourite so I think I have a lot to do in next 6 weeks to be passable.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16 nursey

Letter has arrived....now its real! Looks like a lot of reading in it just in from work so thats my bedtime reading sorted. notice going in tomorrow. cant wait!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18 Valky

Mine has arrived too and I told my boss today... This makes it all so real, as does all the official paperwork! I'll have another read through tonight and get my acceptance sent off! So all that remains now is a huge shopping list and some serious exercise time!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1 TangoT

got the letter today! im in, freaked and excited!:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 85 ✭✭poppysox

I got my welcome pack aswell, It's so exciting :D:D:D

Although loads to read yet and have to source birth certificates, medical cards etc looks like its going to be a stressful couple of weeks

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16 nursey

Notice handed in.. in both jobs and feels good. Scary but good. With A/L should be finished up first week in Jan so hopefully plenty time to learn the DEFINITIONS!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 85 ✭✭poppysox

I have no leave so I'll have to work right up to our start date :(:(:(
Although I'll just learn the dreaded definitions in work, I've done nothing since I got the call....not that I was doing much before that ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7 robag

hey all!! just got back from work there to find a nice big brown envelope with my starter pack!! completely shocked as i didn't get 'the call'. did have a missed call from a withheld number last week but thought nothing of it. anyway, looks like i'l be seeing you all up at the hotel pretty soon, cant freakin wait!! whats the craic with the whole definitions thing though? do we get them later?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 85 ✭✭poppysox

Hey Robag, congrats!! Feel free to start ****ing youself with nerves any minute now. We get the definition at induction and think we're giving so many to learn before our start date :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18 Valky

Hey! Glad to hear of another who got good news! Yep, I seem to be s****ing myself more day by day! Also, isn't this a cruel time of year to be trying to exercise loads and be healthy ;)

I have no leave left either so will have to work it up pretty tight sadly. To make things a little easier I think I'll try to blitz my g'ville shopping list straight after Xmas so it's done before the dreaded definitions kick in.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 85 ✭✭poppysox

I know!! I'm hoping what exercise I do is a good enough starting point, I go to spin twice a week, circuits once and run twice but then I go into work and spend 8 hours eating quality street :D:D

I'm getting more terrified by the day, my stomach was in knots reading the starter pack :o

The shopping is going to be a nightmare, just when you think you've got everything you'll think of something else

Hi folks, just got my letter today, so I'm now bricking it. Was going to go for a run but it has just started snowing again. So I came on here instead. Congrats to everyone else who has got in. See you in Jan

im getting really frustrated!! not sure what to think. i have a merit place between 200 - 230 non rc and have not been contacted to attend a medical. i only received a letter stating i would hear further info by sept 2010 - has anyone heard of anyone anywhere close to my score getting any further.

oh jeez aye. Thats a great score. Every other campaign I've read you'd be in without question RC or NonRC. I still reckon it'll be enough this time too. But that's just gut feeling not inside knowledge

;)Look at it like this, you didn't get a Dear John letter, that has to be a good thing. ;)

See you all in jan, totally freaking out to be honest. I feel sick with nerves

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18 Valky

Congrats, you guys! That must be a fair number of us jan '10 starters who've found this board now! The nerves are killing me too to be honest and I feel like I have soo much to do beforehand and too little time too. But just gonna try and chill for the next few days now as I figure this might be my last Christmas off work for a while! Happy Christmas:)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14 rollinstone

Fully cannot wait to start, am gonna try to get my hands on the definitions soon to try and be a wee bit more prepared, have a good christmas guys!

Congratulations to all who got in, Its no easy task. I am there at the minute and loving it. See you on induction day.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 85 ✭✭poppysox

Hiya! Can someone who knows let me know what the dress code is for induction? I'm assuming suit but I don't want to have to wear one if something less will suffice.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 94 ✭✭0607

Yeah, the majority of people wear suits. Better to make a good impression.

However, i can remember sitting among guys in jeans and a hoodie. They stuck out like a sore thumb though :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18 Valky

Thanks for the advice:) think I will def wear a suit and some fairly sensible shoes!

Made a fairly bit dent in my list the last couple of days too which is a relief;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 85 ✭✭poppysox

Is there a lot of walking about on induction day? Tour of Garnerville etc? Just need to know when deciding what shoes to wear?
