Deal or no Deal IRL is Dead!!

I have watched the Irish deal or no deal over the last two weeks.
Have to say its really boring. Something is missing.

I am not one for knocking Ireland or our home made TV. But this is a real downer... Maybe its because its too long and split over two shows.
I can understand a show like the Xfactor breaking for another program and coming back to show the results.

I was going to post this last week but I thought maybe its a bad week for the show.
Tonight its official!! The show is Dead 100% boring!!

Agree with you there, generally like Keith Barry, but presenting doesn't suit him, show doesn,t work split into two halfs, so boring no one would bother watching the second half if they bothered tuning into it

Only watched the first week, couldn't bear any more after that.

    Its terrible!

    Keith Barry is really wooden.

And the people with the boxes all go out of their way to prolong the amount of time in screen, it gets very annoying.

Yer woman tonight, hot as she was, saying "I'm wearing a red dress tonight and hopefully.......". look love, nobody wants to hear from you. Open the box!

What would you say the problem is?
Is it the break thing? or is it just the atmosphere?
I can't put my finger on it, but I do know its not working!!!

Barry is wooden but his uncle was in a wooden box a few weeks ago. Poor man.

At the end of the day you cannot compare it with the channel 4 version. Its a national lottery show so people think they have a divine right to win money. There is not even an inch of the emotion of the channel 4 show

    Agreed
Generally the people on channel 4 have a good back story or reason they are there and need the money. All the contestants live together in a hotel while filming so they kind of bond.

The Irish version has no atmosphere, no sense of fun and Keith Barry has no connection with the contestants or the audience at home. One giant yawn-fest, and don't get me started on the fact the show is split in 2 with a 30min gap

Real pity to hear all this. Didn't get round to watching it yet but sounds very odd with the whole split show thing!

Definitely have to check it out just to see if it's really this bad!

It is as bad as the UK version. I don't get the deal (pun intended) with Deal or No Deal it happens to be the worst game show in the history of game show, I don't understand how it travels, it is minded numbing. Is life really that bad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,964 ✭✭✭ToniTuddle

Ah no, I quite like the UK one even though Noel does get annoying at times.
The idea for the game is grand but I guess from these posts the Irish one is missing something or alot of things.

Well it's entertaining to some folk :)

When i heard Keith Barry was going to be presenting it,i thought to myself that maybe there might be a twist or something in it.But ive watched it the past few weeks and it has been boring alright. There has been no atmosphere or excitment in it what so ever.

Cant see it being around long.

At least you agree that Noel is annoying. I though Keith would guess the order in which the contestants would pick the boxes.

Cheap to make. The National Lottery will only pull the plug if their cards aren't selling. It isn't like TV3 are give out the prizes.

    There's the answer!!

Keith already knows how the show will end and so he is not excited :p

My aunt lives in Dublin and she applied online to be a box opener..she got a call to ask would she like to come to the studio and be part of the "green team" or something like that..she asked would she be compensated or anything for taking time off work or even get a free lunch and was told no she would get nothing..her "prize" would be that she would be on the telly opening the box and be one of only a handful that are part of the "green team"...needless to say she told them where to go and they also have to learn lines to say and are prompted ie lets hope we keep the pattern going and it's a blue etc.it's all rehearsed and staged and yes Keith Barry is chronic

would be more interesting if he combined his own show and deal or no deal. Have a noose in one of the boxes.. and that pointy thing that he get people to avoid impaling their hand on in another box.. Now that would be exciting.

At least there is none of that dream factory bollocks that Edmonds spouts on the UK version but it is very boring.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,200 ✭✭✭imme

Deal or No Deal UK is pure sh*te, why would you expect Deal or No Deal Ire to be any different.
I can't stand Keith Barry as a presenter and I hate that 'illusion' crap he does.

    Rant Over & Out.

yeah any show that Ireland copy from the UK never lasts long, look at who wants to be a millionaire with Gaybo that didn't last long

The questions on the Irish version of WWTBAM were ridiculously hard. Also remember that guy that gave a wrong answer even though he was right. It was a farce.

The people opening the 25 boxes should be asked to sell their boxes and should be pick from the tickets from the Scratch card entries.

The main contestant picks a box, the holder of the box will ask them to part with their box for @least 1,000euro in exchange for their seat with the banker, basically the main contestant become a box opener if the except plus however much the other contestant sold them their box for out of the other contestants winnings (if they go under the amount in their winnings the Nat Lottery sends them home with nothing and the other contestant gets their 1000 euro or so). Banker remains in use right through out the game.

I am looking for a full overhaul of this **** show.

It was costing too much. Eircell pulled out of sponsorship. The National Lottery were interested in continuing. It was down to money. TBH the UK version could have stop about 5 years ago.

Can someone fill me in on that?

Maybe its split in two in case someone has a really good round one and gets offered 15,000 or some amount that they are happy with and they take the deal. They can wrap the show up in half an hour then and put on some filler show instead of the second half.

I'd much rather spend my lotto money on winning streek where you're practically gaureented money and dont run the risk of ending up with 1c.

I don't recall exactly, but it was something to do with the giant's causeway and it's distance from somewhere in scotland.
[edit] Actually just went and googled, it was a question on anatomy that could have been two choices from the four given:
    http://archives.tcm.ie/irishexaminer/2001/06/22/story6236.asp

On topic, DOND is crap, either UK or IE.
You'd think with the lottery doing our one, they'd have beefed up the prizes or added some form of actual return to would be punters, but no; you're as lkely to go home with a tenner as any of the brits...
As to why famns of the show would think there was something missing? It's probably just our way of doing things...people wanting their 15 mins of fame for opening a bloody box for instance, or overplayed drama surrounding piddling amounts of money...also Barry may be a good illusionist but presenting simply isn't his forte....I can only think that he was given the job as some form of appeal to the target audience.

Yes but their are better gameshow out there giving away money. Why does this one travel over all of the rest?

TV3 made a balls out of a good programme. For the viewer the point of programme is too see quick thinking for money, TV3 taking a half hour stop during the programme pheks it up.

And it hardly travels over the rest, if you want something simple do the lotto.

Tuned in once. Found it to be as boring as they could possibly make it and turned it off.
Will never be returning. Utter rubbish.

This show has been sold to 23 countries, it travels extensively.

I have watched the channel 4 version and it is as slow as this one even without a break.

24 boxes, 1 contestant, the banker and Noel Edmunds.

Contestant: I am thinking 2 or 16 Noel.
    Noel: Why 2?
Contestant: Well it is speaking to me.
Noel: Speaking to you, why not 16
Contestant: Well that is speaking to me also, what do you think Number Sixteen person
No. 16 Person: Oh! Contestant it might very well be this box.
Noel: Oh! 250,000 could be in 16 is that what your saying.
No. 16: I think so Noel.
Noel: Oh! now that changes things for the first time this game and we have only just begun.
    Contestant: No. 2 so Noel.
Noel: Box Number Two person please open the box
Box No. 2: I really hope its 1p Contestant you have been like a mother/father to me. I really hope it is, we will all miss you, we love you, here it goes.

    Opens box to revael 10,000

Noel: Not bad it is only the start and remember 250,000 is still there contestant you think it is in No 16?
Contestant: Yeah I think that I will leave that until last Noel.
