Folks, im looking at buying an 03 Toyota Avensis with about 130k on the clock, catalytic converter gone but full NCT for the next few years.

Any ideas how much I really should be paying for this?

Can you give us a bit more info,

    Petrol or diesel?

    engine size?

    Spec level?

Petrol and 1.6. Just basics, nothing new added in terms of extras.

About €2500 for a mint condition car with a service history IMO.

    Just to add..
Its the newer model of the Avensis,
    Its a Saloon,
    One owner,
    Manual transmission,
Air-Conditioning, CD Player, Central Remote Locking, Front Fog Lights, etc.,
Decent enough service history but majority of services done with local mechanics and not main dealer.

This is the car but in silver::

be careful they can be heavy on petrol. my neighbour had one and it broke him on petrol. he said the gearing was very high. he changed after a year for a diesel passat.

i bought an 03 avensis t3s in the uk about a year ago for 3500 sterling.
its the 1.8 engine which is more economical because the car is a bit heavy for the 1.6 engine.
just curious as to why the seller hasnt had the cat repaired ?
my mechanic said this model can suffer from clutch problems but are a good car apart from that and they look good and drive smooth.
i definetly wouldnt change it for a passat.

Attempts to repair were not successful and the main dealer is charging nearly more then the car is worth for it to be repaired via them. It is very heavy on petrol.

Considering looking towards a Golf now.

I haven't read any of the replies due to wearing beer goggles atm but how could it pass the NCT if the cat was gone?

Car passed the NCT without the CAT working. Iv been told this from several garrages that its very likely.
