Were almost finished the naughties and just wondering what the next decade will be called.

The tens? The teens? They don't sound right. What is it?

Me, I've never called this decade the naughties but I know what you mean. Doesn't matter we are all dead in a couple of years anyway. Damn Mayans!

2000 - 2019 will be known as "The Early 21st Century" or "The turn of the century".

What do you call the decade 1910 - 1919, for example?

    Proper reply:
    1920's called the twenties.
    1930's called the thirties.
    1940's called the fourties.

    So....2010-2019 will be the tens.

AH reply: Tenties. That sounds cool.

Can't call it the teens, because not every year in it will be a 'teen'. So it has to be the tens

I'm just happy that we can go back to calling years twenty ten and twenty eleven instead of this two thousand and nine nonsense.

perhaps we should alll just forget about the years 2010 to 2019 and hope that by 2020 (I cant wait for the twentys) we can all come out of the places we choose to hide from the dreaded recession monster :(

No because Tenty is one hundred!
If we're calling this the noughties then 2010-19 should be the oneties or something...

'noughties' irritates the crap out of me. Just because everything except 00 and 10 has 'ty' at the end, doesn't mean they should too. 1900-1909 were just called the 1900s so the 2000s would be appropriate. And who outside the UK says nought anyway?

As for 2010-2019, I don't know. Tens sounds weird but even the thought of seeing 10 on a number plate just seems weird. I guess it's because every other year has been said in two words "ninety five, zero nine, etc." where as this is just ten, eleven, twelve and so on. 1910-1919 was just called the 1910s after all.

who the hell is calling it the Naughties? you cant name a decade till its already happened, like the swingin' 60s. We wont have a second swingin' 60s - unless I have a very good retirement.

    The one-ders!!!
No no no no no

    BBC
A leading Australian website has tried to solve the problem of what to call the next decade - by holding a competition to name it.

The winning choice of the One-ders earned Adam Vujic a prize of 2,010 Australian dollars ($1,866; £1,122).

More obvious choices such as Tennies, Tenties or Teenies were rejected because "they were so popular they had to be discounted".

The website said the winning name expressed "bright-eyed optimism".

"We needed something that communicated a feeling, not just denoted a number," said the website.

But one unimpressed contributor, who gave his name as Kevin Longfellow, asked: "Is this decision binding on the whole world?"

Observers say the debate over what to call the 2010s mirrors problems with the current decade, which has never had a universally accepted name.

And wtf is "they were so popular they had to be discounted" about?
