    Hey

Just wondering if any O2 SIM card will work in a Speakeasy Iphone? ie Are the phones locked to a specific sim?

    My Scenario
I have an business O2 phone (Nokia) with no upgrade possible due to recession etc. I want to get an Iphone now So can I go into an O2 store and buy a speakeasy iphone and then just put my business sim card in the iphone and use it or is the iPhone tied to the speakeasy sim?

Thanks in advance for replies ;)

last question, can I just throw away the speakeasy SIM card or do O2 have some hidden txt where you have to spend 20 euro on credit every month?

    Cheers

Well if you are buying it on o2 speakeasy, you can buy it as a speakeasy upgrade and won't get a sim with it

so they won't ask for my o2 business phone number when upgrading?

There's two things you might want to consider.

    1. The age of your sim card. Some guys I know haven't changed their sim in years therefore they have either a esat digifone sim or an o2 sim without the 3G logo on it. To get the full iPhone experience you'll want 3G so update your sim. It's free to do in any store.

    2. To any one contacts are insanely important. My iPhone helps me back up my 500+ contacts to my MacBook and then alsoto MobileMe. Do yourself a favour now and import all your contacts to either the address book (if you have a mac) or the WAB (windows address book) you'll thank me when you get your iPhone and they all sync up perfectly.

Also make sure all contacts from your sim (if anyone still stores contacts on sim) are backed up too. Having contacts on sim is dead these days as 1. It normally can only hold one number per person and can't store other information like company name map and profile pic. If you have two numbers stored for a contact and they on the sim and you go to export them they aren't exported in a standardize format e.g.

    Nokia might export like this:
    Joe bloggs/home 01-1234567
    Joe bloggs/mobile 086-1234567

whereas SE might export like this.
    Joe bloggs:home 01-1234567
    Joe bloggs:mobile 086-1234567

    2. Sim contacts aren't backed up everytime you sync with your computer or MobileMe (that's if you decide to use MobileMe btw it's totally optional I only use it because i got it for free with work).

*EDIT* by the way this post was written on iPhone on my way to work they are great :)

They will more than likely ask for your number if you ask for an upgrade phone it's how they ensure your using a 3G sim card to get full iPhone experience.

What you do is go into the store and say I would like a new sim card for your phone you have now (backup sim contacts first if you have any) then sayNto them sometimes my phone doesn't recognize my sim can I get a new one as my old one is knackered.

Then when itcomes to buying iPhone you buy the new customer one instead and remove the sim they put in it with your sim when you get home.

My SIM card is about 2 months old and the Nokia 5800 which I have supports 3G so I should be ok on that count. I also have all my contacts in my Outlook Address book so I am hoping that the change over will be seemless ;)

cool, was just stating the extreme cases as you know it's better to know all different permuatations of scenarios before shelling out the guts of 600 euro.
