    Anyone grab this yet?

Released today on the PS3, its the 4th in the Pixeljunk series, and its a great little game. There's a little bit of Thrust, a bit of Geometry Wars, some Choplifter, throw in a bunch of physics puzzles, and some great graphics (the movement and flow of the water and lava is superb).

Apparently pretty short (4-5 hours), but you can't complain about that when its only €8, and so damn good.

Its a great game, brilliant in Co Op also. The physiques engine is great and I love the whole hot/cold mechanic.

Fairly muted response from myself in regards to this.

It's nice, but it is horribly linear. I was hoping the physics would allow for a little more creativity in the levels but alas there is rarely more than 1 or 2 ways to pass the levels.

It is also incredibly short. Longevity will come from those who go back to get a perfect run and find all the hidden gems.

They've also, shamelessly, cut the game in two (or three, who knows). Unlike Pixeljunk: Monsters where you got the full game then could buy an expansion pack of levels, with this you will have to buy any DLC that is released to see the end of the game which is a joke imo.

The coop is also hamfisted as there is no need for it and it is blatantly tacked on as an afterthought. Some levels that actually required coop would of been nice (in the same fashion that LBP had dedicated areas for 2, 3 and 4 player coop)

Overall it has left a bitter taste in my mouth and I won't be touching the inevitable DLC.

This physics simulator is kinda what I was expecting. What I got was something a lot more basic, linear and requiring little to no imagination.

I don't know if I could agree with everything there. I found a lot of the levels after the mid way point very imaginative, I agree the game is short but the ''story'' isn't enough for me to want to buy the DLC anyway, it would be more to see what else the guys in Q games would do with formula.
Lots of people had the same opinion about the Co Op in Monsters deluxe but that was later considered to be one of the best parts of it. Anyway different opinions and all that jazz. I really enjoyed the game and have a few great Co Op sessions with it.

Difference is, in Monsters the coop added to the game, 1 person could watch one part of the map, while the other person watched the other, or 1 person could dedicate their time to standing on a tower to fully upgrade it.. etc. The strategy of the game changed in coop compared to single player. I played through monsters with my OH and at all times we needed to be talking to each other, telling the other person what we where doing and what help we needed.

This is non-existent in shooter. At no point did I need the other player to do something that I couldn't do myself as we where always in the same area together (how did Toe Jam & Earl manage to have a brilliant automatic splitscreen system yet no other game since has seen fit to utilize it, forcing the players to be joined at the hip by an invisible tether is archaic) In more than one area in shooter you also realize that the inclusion of coop was a complete afterthought. In areas where only 1 player gets a special suit the other player is left doing nothing and just standing around waiting for the other player to complete the task on their own.

It also would of been simple to include levels dedicated to coop (like give one player the inversion suit, the other the magma suit etc)

Also, in regards to imagination, I'm speaking of personal imagination, not the imagination of the game designer. The game is imaginative but it doesn't allow for any personal freedom in solving the puzzles. Compare this to World of Goo or Scribblenauts. There is only one defined way to solve the majority of the puzzles, and once you've played through it once there is no other way to play through it differently.

All your points are solid L31mr0d no getting away from it but it doesn't take away from the fact that its still heaps of fun, looks great and has fun (if linear) puzzle elements. I understand where you are coming from especially with PJ Monsters difficulty curve you may have expected much more of a challenge,(I still haven't collected all the rainbows on the first island of monsters but cleared Shooter in two days sittings) but as a stand alone product for €9.99 I think its a great game to have on your hard drive. I also don't know what the balancing issue would be like in relation to the changes you would make to the Co Op but its still a good point.

I could make the leader board point as replay value but I wont as I dont think it fits into the context of what your talking about. I simply dont think this game is what you were looking for from a puzzler but then again its not a tower defense or a straight up puzzler its a much more accessible shooter with puzzle elements. It also provides a much more casual experience from the likes of monsters and maybe Fat Princess. .

Not everyone is a hardcore gamer and maybe thats something a small company like Q games realizes has to be recognized if your going to try and flog a game in a time when companies are going under ever month.

I see what you mean by a co-op player not being needed to help you along like LBP L31mr0d !

It is a good little game though even if it is short ....
I might think differently when i get through it all !

Great game, definitely worth a buy. Despite the fact that many say it's short, if it was any longer I think it would have became slightly repetitive.
