Broadband dongle for idiots?

The wife wants a broadband dongle for christmas, I'm not sure what to get. My main query is coverage and roaming. I live in Newtowncunniongham, Donegal.

First, what is the coverage like? Any other Newtown or Donegal people here? The maps all say I have good coverage but the 3 site says I also have good mobile coverage and I know for a fact that I don't.

Second, what is the story with roaming? We both work in Derry so would be over the border a lot.

Does anyone do deals for home broadband and a dongle?

I've tried to get sense from the various sites but just end up confusedand don't get my questions answered.

    Any help would be great.

You get 14 days to try the 3 modem. They have expanded their network coverage significantly over the last couple of months, also you will incur no roaming costs with 3 once your modem connects to 3UK when working in Derry

The 3 Dongle is the perfect product for idiots. Only an idiot would use one ;)

Have a look at the Mega-thread - 7,000+ posters can't be wrong. No confusion there.

If your wife is not an idiot, do her a favour and get real Broadband.

So basically the 3 dongle is full of bugs and issues, but it's probably my best bet due to the free roaming? Do none of the other Irish providers do free roaming with their UK counterparts?

3 used to allow 3-UK customers to roam free on 3-IRL but then they stopped. Is it still OK for broadband users?

There are no bugs or issues with the modems, the problem is Three's network. There's no point in paying money for something that doesn't work, regardless of free roaming. You'll have to try it yourself before you'll know if it will work for you or not.

I've got three about a week ago and frankly is good enough for browsing webpages without much media contents in it. For me I was expecting more in speed especially videos e.g youtube or streamings... Has anyone got any suggestion for an affordable broadband?
Is the 3Mbps NTL is good for this?

i use an o2 dongle, use in south donegal ocassionally. be just out side a 3g area there, but will often still get 1 bar on 3g, and ocassionally it will drop back to GPRS if it gets to weak. can carry on using without having to reconnect as long as i have remembered to select 3g preferred instead of 3g only. problem with 3 is though, last time i checked if you go out of the 3g area, you cant use it, unfortunatly it does not drop back to GPRS, and when i trailed it, didn't have the opiton to select GPRS either, unless they have changed this, its another reason to avoid them.

o2 have also upped their down load limit to 15Gb for new customers or renewal of exsisting customers depending on price plan

I'm thinking of getting 2 prepaid dongles, 1 for the UK and 1 for Donegal. If roaming will be an issue, no point getting one or the other.
