    hey everyone
I've just started selling on ebay and sold a dress on tues night for €70.buyer is in ireland too.she's a first time buyer.anyway she was having trouble with her visa card and paypal-i think she said it was a visa debit and ebay dont accept that.
so she emailed me today asking me would i accept postal order or western union??and that she would send it off in the morning.
dont know what to do!!seems genuine enough girl but i'm hesitant as she's a first time buyer.if i was to accept the postal order would i wait to get it before sending the stuff.she gave me her mob number too.
any advice would be great thanks"""

Ask for a postal order and, of course, wait until you receive it before sending off the goods. :)

Postal orders can be faked, and you may not discover it's a fake for several weeks, when it bounces and the money disappears from your account.

You could safely use Western Union, as the sender has no way to reverse a WU payment. Once you receive the cash, it's all yours. The sender takes all the risk in that case. If she's willing to send via WU, then tell her to do that.

Never heard of a faked postal order, although these days nothing would surprise me. That said I use Western Union but would trust a PO first and would have thought that any post office would be able to confirm whether it was genuine or not.

Any chance your near enough to the seller to meet up and get paid hard cash?

Thanks for the advice.I'm in Cork and shes in Dublin so meeting up wasnt an option. All sorted now.she transferred the money through western union so i collected it earlier and posted off the package at the same time so it was perfect.

Thats good to hear but don't go thinking Western Union is a recommended option as its not. It was OK in this case for you as the buyer offered to use Western Union but don't ask a buyer to do that and don't ever send any money by Western Union to anyone you don't know personally.

If the seller had asked the question here instead of you and said should I pay by Western Union the answer would have been no don't do it.

    Hope that makes sence.

    €70

cash via registered post is the best option here

I'd advise against this. First of all, it's against ebay policy and second the buyer is left with no recourse in the event of something going wrong.
