antivir pop up confusion

    hi just a quick question.. i was on fml and the window closed and a message came up saying that i have a virus which needs to be removed.. it then told me to click ok to let antivir remove the virus. ive never herd of antivir and just a little confused bout what it was.. any advice on what it was or how that pop up erm... poped up? i ran an avg scan which found nothing just it looks dodggy but dont fancy having t fork out a load for a new laptop thanks

    its most likely a phantom antivirus program, which basically pretends that you have a load of viruses in the aim to get you to pay for the software to get rid of them when in fact the program itself is malware, remove the software and run a malwareBytes scan, you can get MalwareBytes free at:

    use the free "microsoft security essentials" instead of avg


    avg doesn't detect polymorphic file infector or fake anitviruses, so is only slightly better then no antivirus

    Spybot S&D is a good tool to remove this (just google it)
