I’m bringing my girlfriend to Dubai in January – she is from Lithuania. I checked online and Lithuania is one of the countries that needs a visa for the UAE.

Does anyone have any clue as to the process of getting a visa – what you have to do and how you go about it? I have emailed the London UAE Embassy so waiting for a reply but hoping someone here might know a thing or two…
    Cheers

Zascar, I have never been to UAE nor know anybody who had to apply for a visa beforehand travel.

It appears your girlfriend needs an invitation from Hotel or Travel Agency in UAE.

    UAE Government website
    http://www.uaeinteract.com/travel/visas.asp#visa

" [after list of Western Countries who are entitled to a visa at the airport].......
    - If you do NOT fall into one of the above categories, you will require a visa and a sponsor for your visit. The sponsor normally applies for the visa on your behalf.
Valid sponsors may be as follows:-
a - Hotels & Tourist Companies can apply, on your behalf, for a Tourist Visa (valid for 30 days); or a Service Visa (valid for 14 days); or a Visit Visa (valid for 30 days and can be extended for other 30 days)
b - Airlines & Airlines Handlers apply on behalf of their crew members for a 96-hour Transit Visa.
c - Other Organizations based in the UAE may only apply for Visit Visas and Service Visas.
d - Individuals (Relatives or Friends) already resident in the UAE may, subject to guidlines, also apply on your behalf for a Visit Visa."

As the likes of Russia are not on the special list I believe there won't be a problem in contacting a hotel or tour company you may want to use to fill out a form and return it. Maybe your travel agent here can help.

If time is pressing there may be an option to receive a visa number and collect it at Dubai Airport. Make sure you know if there are any restrictions on travel between the different Emirates Dubai, Abu Dhabi etc.

Thanks for your help Liam. Ok well my sister lives there with her Family so that should not be a problem. I'm not sure if she needs the "Entry Service Permit" or the "Visit Visa" - our trip is 13 days, its a bit confusing on that site...

I'll ask my sister but if anyone can clarify that would be great
    Cheers

Easiest to send your sister into a visa service agent (usually in travel agencies in satwa, bur dubai, karama areas of dubai) with a copy of your girlfriends passport and ask them to obtain the visit visa. not sure of specific rules for lithuania though. for example for an indian passport the fee is around 120 euro.
