New to ebay should I give negative feedback ?

Hi just bought my first thing from ebay a memory card from a seller in Ireland, I contact the seller before hand and asked if it was unopened and could the deliver charge be lowered from €2.50 the seller replied that
"is shipped in its original hard plastic case, the postage includes packagining also and is very reasonable at 2.50"

I won the auction and received the memory card in a brown envelope with a 55c stamp and no packaging to protect the memory card from damage. (in fact the case is damaged from transit.

    What can I do ?

He said it was shipped in a hard plastic case, which it was (even if it did get damaged in the post), which is as described. Postage costs include packaging and handling, which costs more than just a stamp.

    You can do three things
    • You can say you didn't get it (as he didn't send it registered he cant prove he sent it)
    • You can return it ( you will have to send it back registered so it wont be worth it id say considering the costs)
    • Or you can leave negative feedback

    Personally i'd leave negative feedback.
Perfectly acceptable as he lied about the postage and the packing.

So packaging cost's the envelope ,stamp and trip to the post office?
Do you think the €2.50 is reasonable ?
I'm only new to the ebay so these questions maybe noob questions sorry.

Thanks RoadKillTs and Tiesto for your comments too. Think it'll have to be the negative feedback

    Where did he lie?
It was in it's plastic case in an envolope just as he said?
    Does the card work?
If it does I'd be happy.

    Hi jor el,

    the seller said
is shipped in its original hard plastic case

What packaging costs did he have? A brown envelope? :)

Sorry I read the first post wrong :o

I thought you meant the item was damaged.
If the item is working then you should not leave negative feedback. I'd leave neutral feedback as 2.50 for P&P is a joke when he sent it in an envelope and not registered.

It's not unreasonable. Besides, you can see all postage costs before you buy, so you can't complain that it was too much afterwards.

If you paid for registered post, and it was sent normal post, then you have a complaint. In this case, you don't, unless the card itself is broken.

The easiest answer is neutral feedback...you are not happy with the overall transaction but at the same time the seller has not mislead you. The P+P price includes the time it takes to both package and post the item along with the stamp....now €2.50 is probably a little on the high end but you also knew how much it was before you paid for it. You will also have the ability to mark aspects out of 5 stars and one of those is with regards to postage costs so you can mark this very low if you wish :)

When purchasing items from a seller, I look at both pos, neg and neutral feedback to get an overall idea of the seller so it will make an impact.

Hope the card works...as it is the most important part of your purchase.

I thought that because I was paying €2.50 that it would arrive in a bubble wrapped envelope (or even some tissue wrapped around it :p ) (never assume anything )... ah well live and learn. Thanks I've emailed the seller to see what they have to say and after that I'll leave my feedback.

If it does what you want I would leave positive feedback.

Why did you buy in the first place if the postage was so high? -I presume he was the cheapest overall. You might not know how ebay really works -I actively seek out sellers with high postage costs.

Say the item costed £10 to 2 ebay sellers,

Seller 1 wants to make £5 profit. So he has to put it on sale at £15.62 and £1.70 postage. So you pay £17.32, ebay take a cut of ~4% of the sale value so he gets £5 profit

Seller 2 wants to make £5 profit too, yet he wants to sell at a lower price so he is more likely to make the sale. So he includes a higher handling charge in his postage, of £5.30, bringing postage to £7. Now to make the same £5 profit he can charge you £10.10. So his total cost is £17.10.

So you have 2 choices pay £17.32 or pay £17.10. You get the same product posted the same way. The seller gets the same profit. The only loser is ebay. My heart bleeds for ebay, the poor fellas are barely scraping a living.

All the above omits paypal and other fees, I think it might be complicated enough! I hope people can see the point.

For these reasons I actively search for people with higher postage costs, they can offer products at lower prices at the same profit margins. Please do not report them, do not buy from them if you want, but dont ruin it for everybody else, unless you actually like giving ebay more money.

OK, you have a point there all right. An un-padded envelope is not really adequate for an item like a memory card. If the memory card works though, I wouldn't leave negative feedback. Maybe neutral, and state that he uses inadequate packaging.

That's what I did in the end thanks again for everyone's opinions.

just leave the negative feedback!! :)
Only kidding, sorry I misread earlier and thought he posted the card simply in a brown envelope, 'without' the plastic case...
