Latest MTB news according to Cycling Ireland:
RadioShack has been confirmed as the sponsor of a new American ProTour squad, to be led by Lance Armstrong in the 2010 season.

Huge improvement, but still pretty bare. I guess it will be fleshed out over time. The old one was shockingly bad.

Hmm, there seems to be lots of absent areas. No text in any of the FAQ sub sections. No text in any of the News sub sections. No documents in any of the sub sections. Banners say 'Road Banner 1' and the like. Events have not been filled in. Province subsections (i.e. Leinster MTB) say 'MTB page content'. Needs a lot of fleshing out.

It looks better at least, but it is very short of content, which I assume (or hope) is forthcoming. One of my main issues with the old site was how hard it was to find stuff. Remains to be seen if they've addressed that.

Better than before but so backward looking. Seems to suffer from the same old problems of not wanting to communicate with their membership.

That's the positive. Why is this site live? I don't think it is acceptable for an established organisation like this to bring up a new site which lacks even basic information about the organisation, it's structure, the key policy documents & regulations.

The Cycling Ireland website has no information on Anti-Doping regulations. Perhaps they have nothing to say.

I don't care if they are going to fill this out later the point is that they had a site with this information on it (though hard to find) and therefore this new site should not have gone live until the migration of the existing info that was to retained was moved across.

Not specific to this new site so slightly off topic. I do hope to see a huge improvement in the Google Calendar events next year. It should surely not be acceptable to post an event in this calendar with only an event name, organisers name & mobile number. They should ensure that there is a minimum level of information before an event is put on the calendar. So many times I was looking at the leisure calendar this year and didn't have the slightest notion of where an event was being held (which would seem like the most basic of information). It seems that some people expect that the only people who ride these events are those that already know all the information about them. I shouldn't have to come on here to find out details.

    End of rant.

So far as I remember I think I read on the new website that this feature was yet to be enabled though that is supposed to happen soon.

Can't access the site just now to confirm that but I'm pretty sure I do remember it saying that.

Are you serious? CI website should just be a joomla installation with member contributed information.

"Cheap, crap, expensive, good - pick two".

    Doh! Not those two!

TBH, €20k is naff all for a decent website. Even Joomla needs customisation, and after a certain point it becomes cheaper (and more secure) to build something from scratch. But in 2009, a high profile website with "Key Documents" as a main menu item is a bit of a surprise.

cyclingireland.ie is so frustrating. I saw a news story recently about junior squads being announced, clicked on the link and nothing. Today (the 22nd of March) they announced details of a coaching course to be held on the 20th of March!! There are no details of cyclists rankings for the season which was available on the previous website. Will they ever get it right?

Saw that as well. I especially liked the section where it said completed forms had to be in 14 days before the event!

where is the 2010 road calendar?

    where is the rankings?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 110 ✭✭andun84

I was clicking the link for the Etape Hibernia as thought there must be new info on it but again it had no info at all. Blank page. It is truly staggering how they can carry on like this. Do they actually pay people for putting these pages up because if they do they need their heads looking at!!

The calendar is on Google Calendar, I believe they keep all the juicy information on Facebook.
    March Events
Sorry, there are no events this month

That bloody website is a disgrace !! Might as well have burned the money, its crap ... on EVERY count !! Usability, navigation, design ... EVERYTHING !!

They must have had to search very hard to find such useless web designers, or maybe not, smells like good ol' nepotism to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,096 ✭✭✭anoble66

absolute rubbish site. As someone new to this sport it gives a very bad impression of cycling ireland. Cant believe they spent 20k on that muck. Done a fair bit of web design myself over the years and someone definately saw them coming. As someone mentioned already, you can easily knock something up in Joomla and others, and customise it for peanuts.

    Related to the website.

    I have tried to join.
    Took out non-competition license.
They say it is €20. However, they have not billed me. It just said that my membership has been accepted?
Do I need to do more?

Phone them, they can probably sort it in two minutes. The website doesn't take online payments.

Expect a few confusing and duplicated automated e-mails.

It does from March onwards, wasn't working Jan-Feb.

I did mine last week online and went through successfully.

I did choose the "pay online with card" option.
Then recd a msg saying that they would get in contact with me.
    Strange.

Going back over the e-mails, they said (on 16 Mar) that I couldn't pay online because it was a licence upgrade. So I'm not sure the picture is completely clear. Perhaps this has changed.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 110 ✭✭andun84

I chose to pay by card. I received my message to say I was accepted so I assumed that they had taken my payment. I logged into the website about a month later when I hadn't received my card to find that my status was payment pending so like everything on their website it seems you have to do things twice.

Once I clicked to pay I got my card about a week later. So just check that they actually have taken your payment.

Just another annoyance with their website. You log into your account but once you have finished there seems to be no way to return to the general cycling ireland website. You have to renter their address - basic!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,516 ✭✭✭E@gle.

If you pay online you need to get someone from your club committee to approve your membership then cycling Ireland have to approve it

Full Competition, yes. I picked it up from the CI office, which resembles a large stationery cupboard. :)

No complaints about the actual service. I just wish their website wasn't cack.
