Looking for ideas on what to get my wife for Christmas. She's Chinese. Not getting clothes as she has loads or shoes either. Basically, not anything she can wear. Want to keep it small but special. thinking of getting our own keyrings with pictures. Any other ideas?

I suppose it would depend on how much cash you had to play around with OP.

Not a lot by the looks of things if you're thinking keyrings.

also why did you add that your wife is chinese? is that meant to make some sort of difference? dont they celebrate christmas? you should have some idea what your wife would like why not ask her what she wants?

To be honest a key ring is a daft idea

I was wondering the same thing.
OK, we get that it's not a big deal in China, but that doesn't mean you don't give her a Christmas prezzie when everyone else is getting one.

Are you talking about something small cos you don't have much dosh?

I love Chanel No. 5, so anything in that line would go down well imo.

Yeah OP, we're going to need at least a ballpark figure to give any kind of sensible suggestion.

You could organise something special for Christmas day - like a romantic drive/walk somewhere, if it's cold you get to cuddle!
You could also make up a little album of photos of you guys from when ye first met up to now, or a collage of photos in a frame of things that mean something to her.

Not keyrings, even though it's a good idea imo :D
Girls don't want sensible things, so I am told. They want glittery sparkly stuff.
    How about a pamper voucher?

lol you've not met me so!
I'd hate a pamper voucher or smelly crap
If a guy made an effort I'd appreciate it no matter what it was.

But if she likes that sort of stuff OP - it's a good way to go, like a manicure type thingy. OR if she likes teddies you could get one of those ones that you make yourself and put your voice inside? (a male friend of mine got that for his OH and she loved it)

well reason I mentioned nationality was because Chinese have different tasts to Westeeners. At least my wife does and I figured someone else might be married to a Chinese and they could offer an opinion.

Short of money alright. She loves reading Roald Dahl books so I downloaded the audiobook series for her. Like the idea of the photos. She loves them so might go with that. She's no interest in phones. She has one already and is happy with that so no go there. Ya, rekon the photos is a great idea. My parents are getting her a voucher for hair-do so don't wanna go that direction. Thank all.

The books sound like a really nice idea :)
And photos too would be a sweet personal touch (I think) so hopefully that works out

Have to say I agree with you on that - though it's probably more to do with immaturity than anything else.

How about hiring a photo studio and a photographer to take some family portraits ?

If you are on a tight budget you could even get a photography student with their own lighting rig to go to your house to do them there - shouldn't have to be too expensive. How creative or lively the pictures are or are not is entirely up to your own tastes. Some conservative ones for family and more down to earth ones for your own home etc. If you choose this option you should properly check the portfolio of the photographer first (as many in the business are just talentless shysters) of all and also make sure that you get to own the original digital files.

I would agree with other posters who say that the keyring option seems like a bad idea. That would not be a suitable Christmas gift imo.

I would say the photography forum but the thing is I have seen it happen before where photographers who make a good living from charging high prices have a total fit at the thoughts of someone looking to get a student to do a job for them. Maybe the 'Services Wanted' part of adverts.ie ?

The photo forum has a spot for services offered and wanted and no one will bite your head of for asking. I am sure someone would be delighted to help for the experiance alone.

Ok people need to back the **** off with this 'racist' bull ****. Will you lighten the hell up. My god. My post was genuine and I tried to help the OP.

I said I was laughing at the thread....and continued to explain that I'd no idea why cos it wasn't even funny....

I hate all this pc **** of 'racial issues'. It had nothing to do with race. Ok I made a joke at the end...but give me a break for christ sakes...if I posted something and someone made a joke about my being a paddy or a gayer I would be running around screaming 'racist' or 'homophobe'.

In fact I think the OP is very sweet and if half the lads in this world went to as much effort to get something nice for thier other half then the world would be a much better place!

It ****ing pisses me off how many losers are on this website who surf through threads looking for posts which display any sort of politically incorrect sentiment just so they can hop on board and exercise their pathetic pseudo-intellectuality. Take you hyper sensitive ass out of my face.

well chinese new year is at a different time to our new year so...
if your wife is staying in ireland for her chinese new year there wont be much on.
You could make her chinese new year really special and book a dinner at a gorgeous restaurant and toast in her new year with champagne.
Or you could organize a "Chinese new year party" at your house for all your family and friends and keep it a surprise until xmas day, then tell her! anyone can buy a gift for a loved one but organising a party is really hard work and it would be her night. A chinese new year themed party would be a present she'd never forget!

You do realise the guy who was insulted by your childish comment was infact the OP, who is married to a Chinese person, and not some random do-gooder cruising the internet.

    Grow up.

Btw, your 'joke' was racist, it's kinda funny that you don't even realise it, as the true definition of racism is thick pig-headed ignorance.
