Your Zombie paranoia level?

    Hey guys.

Managed to pick up the reference book by Max Brooks that is Zombie Survival Guide, and got to thinking.

How many of todays modern day tragedies could be linked back to a zombie outbreak?

Swineflu: When I first heard of this, I immediately thought of the opening couple of pages in World War Z.
The recent (well recent enough) shootings of people in the US and to lesser amounts in Europe: Could be a cover up, branding the saviour of the day as a murderer.
The recent burning down of a nightclub in Russia. Bunch of zeds, trapped in a nightclub, and it burns to the ground.

Anyone any other ideas about recent events, or even historical ones?

Thats an interesting take on things..

Could extent that to the Middle east is actually nothing to do with the oil but constant Zombie uprisings that need immediatly military attention that the locals just cannot handle so the US went in...

Is it still paranoia when it's the truth?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,995 ✭✭✭Sofiztikated

True, Doom, just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean its not happening.

Seriously though, does anyone have any other examples (in media) of potential Zombie activity? I may have to start scouring the media daily for threats and potential cover ups.

(also trying to breathe a bit of life into this forum)(Geddit?)

There was a link posted a while ago where some woman in America eat her childs brains, but it was pretty nasty and not something i really want to look for.

On a larger scale (well, within reason), if the governments are doing their jobs right, you'll never hear about it. I think that when it does happen, i'll find out when one of them actually tries to take a bite out of me. Thats why i always try to start my survival plans with the assumption that i have nothing of use on me.

Thats what I mean though, they're bound to cover it up with something. In this day and age, every fool has access to a camera and internet, so a smart move would be to make the story into whatever they want to spin it, be it a homicidal maniac, or a tragedy, or what have you.

And if, as Brooks says, a certain scenario is happening a lot, then you can bet your bewbs theres something going down.

Swineflu is my biggest o_O moment.

If your worried about swine flu being the start of WWZ. Id be more worried about the swineflu jabs making people zombies to be honest.

Ah, see thats where the cunning lies. People think they're getting swine flu, when in reality it is only a regular flu.

The swine flu they had in Mexico, wasn't really swine flu either, but a cover up for the zombie virus. D'ya follow me?

Another possible Zombie event, and this may not be popular with some, is 9/11. It is possible that there was a Zombie threat on board, and the pilots either ditched the planes, knowing what was on board, or were overcome, and the planes crashed due to noone flying them. Common elements on all 4 planes, people that were from the same community (or group) that may have been infected.

Even more recent, the Brazil AirFrance plane going down. South America, close (enough) to Mexico with their "Swine Flu", could it be possible the Zombie virus was on board, the US Government knew, and brought the plane down to stop it reaching Europe? Just need to look back now, was Air France first, or was the first media attention to Swine Flu first? I can't remember.

The motto of every good drug dealer. It became mine the first time I got caught with jail time drugs on me. The second time I got caught my new motto became I should really stop selling drugs.

Swine flu and the jab are safe, I followed the first person that got the jab around for 3 days and nothing happened. I installed a webcam just over her shower head to observe her movements, just in case.

The last time the power went here, I was sitting in darkness clutching my crowbar when I heard beeping and shouting in the street, I honestly thought to myself "it's time", then the power came back on and everything was back to normal disappointed wasn't the word. :(

I'm sure they are, I don't believe the job will turn anyone zombie. What I do believe is that it was a cover for a zed outbreak in Mexico. Then the WHO got involved, and caught the wrong end of the stick altogether.

You and me both brother! Had a bit of a power outage in work, heard car alarm going off. Man, was I in for an upset when I realised it wasn't zombies, but punk kids. And apparently I'm in trouble for GBH!

Its possible that it has happened and has been dealt with in some cases. If a goverenment was to get its hand on a Z you could probaly tell that they would see a military use for them.

I always turn on the news to hear of some small tradegy in a part of the world to far away to matter to us and think, what if its a Z outbreak and the authorities are trying cover it up.

Not trying to put on my tin foil hat but covers do happen and Id imagine something of this nature would have to be covered up.

I can confirm that swine flu itself does NOT turn you into zed.

It's does turn you into a snotty, sneezing, coughing, aching, mucus oozing, pooping, vomiting, feverish wreck though. Day 5 now, and I'm getting better.

Haven't heard anymore cover ups, but haven't been keeping as close an eye as I'd hoped.

an easy mistake to make brother, not a court in the land that would convict you.

The Thing that worrys me tho is how would we know if the Scumbags had turned

    Pasty faces
    excessive drooling
    Mumbling/groaning incoherently
    Lack of coordination
    Shuffling aimlesey
    horific smell
    Vacant expression
    attacks without provocation
    almost negligible signs of inteligence
    hang around in large packs

Hmmm, someone please reassure me that Zday hasnt happened already

I can be quoted many times saying"The best thing about the zombocolypse is being able to kill a goth and get away with it".I'd say that about junkies too but the odds of getting away with that now are still fairly decent.

Also, does anyone think the huge reaction to BSE a few years ago was a bit extreme. They put more effort into that then they have into swine flu.

Maybe Zombieland was onto something? Didn't they say mad cow turned into mad human?

All new variants of the flu are being seriously watched by WHO. This can mean one of two things. Firstly, I'm sure organisations like these will cry wolf at the drop of a hat. They love attention and always want to be at the centre of it.

Secondly, they're on full alert for the Zombie threat, it's a flu virus and is randomly mutating into the Zombie virus every so often.

I was carrying two buckets of water down a hill last nigh, the house lights behind me.
My dad was walking quite quickly up the hill from the shadows so I could only see an outline.
The first thing I thought of was: "if he comes at me how would I react?"
I had thought of 4 different ways of putting him down, depending on how he came at me.

    I think I have a problem.

Not to mention the drunken paranoia riddled walk home after a night out when you spot someone either staggering towards or behind you, making incoherent moaning sounds and you feel that cold chill up your spine and the adrenaline in your veins and you start running an inventory of what you have with you to use in defense.

    The stiletto always wins

Not to go off topic but that woman had a history of voilent psycosis and post natal depression with her other pregnancies, went back to the same hospital to have the child she killed, same doc and everything and they just left her off home with the baby, which and she tortured and killed it under instructions from the devil. Stupid docs in that stupid hospital hope they get eaten when the outbreak goes widespread!

For me, the zombie apocalypse is more a symbol than an actual event. My idea is that if you are always prepared for zombies, there are few threats less than that in life. And those things that are tactically different from Z-day are strategically similar enough that adjustments to the plan can be made on the fly.

As far as the dead walking the streets and eating the flesh of the living, my paranoia level is low to moderate. When the creepy fog rolls in and the streets are all quiet I take extra precautions just because not taking those precautions result in the first death of most horror films. When the incoherent person lurches toward me I instinctively initiate evasive actions and begin gathering facts (fast zombie ala zombieland? Talking 'zombie' ala I Am Legend?) to make sure I don't die from applied stupidity. So I'm not un-paranoid, but I don't wonder if epidemics are covered up zombie attacks. I have read the professional epidemiology reports on a zombie outbreak (how the lab got grant money for that simulation I'll never know) and it's excessively improbable that so few would die from it even with the swiftest of reactions from the medical world. As for what is represented by the symbol of Z-day, I prefer to act as though I expect it any minute now because tomorrow is always another day.
