- How many are on the dole?
- How many are Roma gypsy frogs?
- How many are public servants?
- How many sick days do they take each year?
- How many have illegally handled a ball in a World Cup playoff?

I'm curious as to how they are going do the counting accurately?

I am also curious as to who thought it was a good idea to implement this directive?

Will tadpoles be counted as part of the census?

Will pet frogs be covered off?

I'm going to go with it generally being considered to be a good thing to have an idea of the ecology of the country your supposed to govern.

Crazy, I know, but just because the general public can't see a immediate or obvious benefit to it doesn't mean there that one doesn't exist.

Cowen blames Fine Gael because they were in power when the European Directive was introduced... hmmmm, since when do we have a choice regarding the implementation of European Directives. If the EU Commission et al decide to introduce new Directives. National Governments don;t have a choice but to implement them. Otherwise massive fines (running into the hundreds of millions of euro).

Obviously the frog counting project is required under this Directive and therefore is Irish law. The Gov have no choice but to do what is written in law,if they don't they get fined by the EU Commission.

A joke of an article to be honest and much "outcry" over nothing by people who don't have a clue what goes across Europe (and I include Enda Kenny in that)

There are roughly 126,000 frogs in the country. Now where's my €125,000???

(Note : Since there is no realistic method of counting the frogs, my guess is just as valid as that of any scientist )

No problem with the government counting frogs. How else are they going to know how many there are?

BUT €120k? Typical government overspending. Surely it shouldn't cost that much.
