hi all, never thought I would be posting on the fitness board lol...

I gave up smoking 2 days ago... I have just had enough and hope I dont ever go back to the horrible things, I am wearing a patch...
One of the reasons I wanted to give up is I want to start running, I am about two stone overweight due to having two babies in two years and not doing much after to loose the weight... I have a treadmill and have started doing 2 one hour walks at 5.5 mph mixing it with intermitent jogging (if you can call it that but I am trying), one first thing in the morning and one in the evening...

I seem to be incredibly hungry in the morning and craving carbs so am going to start porridge...

Hopefully in a while I can step up the jogging to running and build up a bit of stamina and atleast my lung capacity might enable me to do this now... I am going for a wii fit from santa too for the yoga etc and hope to stick to a bit of that.. so just looking for some advice from all you fitness freaks lol.. will two hours a day of walking/jogging build up my stamina or will I really have to work on the jogging now (I find if I jog for more than a few minutes I start to feel dizzy, I am unfit but really want to start doing something about it)

Any suggestions (of the nice kind lol) greatly appreciated, many thank xxx

First of all congrats and well done on trying to get fitter and giving up the smokes.

2 one hour walks a day and craving carbs/being really hungry in the morning - connected! You would be far better off (and less hungry) doing one high intensity walk in the morning or evening, and adding weights and/or bodyweight exercises into your routine. Look up some simple routines online - bodyweight squats and lunges, push-ups etc. I really recommend the following site - some excellent and enjoyable reading on there, and great advice: http://www.stumptuous.com

Pay attention to your body and increase the intensity as you go along. Start increasing the intensity on your walks and as you lose the weight (diet must be good too) it will become easier to start jogging if you wish.

many thanks celestial.. i think in the next while i wont do the treamill in the evening, i feel i am doing it now as a way to help me with my cravings, but then an hour or so later am finding it hard to sleep... I might get santa to chuck in a few free weights too, or maybe even get my partner a weights bench (for myself really!!) I do love the walking jogging in the morning though, feel so much better already, my IBS seems to be much better and feel better in gerneral in myself after a go on it.. i will go through the site you recommended now, anything that can help is much appreciated, I have three children so the gym isnt an a option however much I would love a personal trainer lol, so I need to try to motivat emyself in my own home. Thanks again for the reply x (oh and diet is improving, chicken breast, brown rice.. its just th emornings i go mad for white bread which is no longer in the house lol) x

First off - well done on giving up the smokes and taking the first steps to losing weight.

If you do decide to go down the running route an excellent program to look at is 'Couch to 5k'. Google it and take a look. A lot of walkers and people who never ran but wanted to swear by it.

    Best of luck OP.

I think the general consensus is that the wii Fit is a waste of time & money.
