Looking to get the girlfriend a weekend away for a Christmas present, Ireland (we are in Dublin) Spa etc....I have never been to a Spa/Hotel in Ireland, so anyone have a recomendation? Somewhere where I can pay for a weekend without it having to be any specific weekend as it may need to be flexible.

    Thanks

Seems like a voucher might be a better option.

Brooklodge in Macreddan Village, Wicklow is quite good. http://brooklodge.com/

    There's a great hotel/spa at Inchydoney in Cork http://www.inchydoneyisland.com/index2.html#

Both have links to purchase vouchers.

We recently stayed in Galgorm Hotel and Spa outside Ballymena in Antrim and it was fantastic. It's in a great location, half an hour to Belfast one way and about the same to the breathtaking Antrim coast the other.

They've a good few different types of packages on offer at the moment.

Voucher is the best bet there, fella.

    www.farnhamestate.ie
(Very nice, second largest spa in Ireland, big grounds, rooms in hotel are modern, try to get an end of corridor one.)

    www.mountfalcon.com
(Got engaged here. Rooms are fantastic, food is excellent if you're a foodie, spa I didn't get to look at, I was "busy")

    stayed recently in:

    www.kilronancastle.ie
(Food and rooms are great, not just as nice as Falcon, but still great. Spa I didn't go to, as I had other plans.)

This 5* hotel/spa is great, and just outside Dublin too!! You can buy vouchers to be used against any weekend/package etc. Plus, you can always head shopping in Kildare Outlets on the way home as is really close by! All girls love shopping right??

Thanks all for the replys, much appreciated, plenty to look at here...so many options. Actually never thought about the North, interesting, but also like the idea of not going too far for a relaxing weekend...choices, choices, again thanks for the suggestions all..!

My wife is big into these so we've been to a few.

been to - www.monart.ie - ( best in Ireland )and probably most expensive.

colodan house in Belfast is a lovely old world proper 5* hotel, really nice

the icehouse in ballina ( was there for October long weekend ) - very nice - great food, nice spa facilities, but rooms are not 4* imo and there aint alot else to do !

The spa facilities in the Radisson in Galway are quite good too and good value - plus you can go do other stuff if your not that into it as its city centre and only 2 hrs from dublin.

    hope this helps.

Im looking to do this myself, prices everywhere seem to be the same (the packages are different though but with add ons they work out the same)

Narrowed it down to Carton House Hotel or The monart

Anybody been to either, what would you recommend?

Well, I think I am going for Monart myself. Not too far from Dublin but far enough that we will feel like we have got away....it was either that or mount falkon in Mayo...but feel Monart looks a class above...

I really couldn't recommend Monart at all Easy Rider, I was there a few months ago and had the worst experience ever.

The room was filthy, the spa was dirty - was not impressed at all to say the least.

Management didn't want to know about it.

Honestly, I would stay away from Monart if I were you - I too had high hopes for it but all it left was a sour taste in my mouth. Never again.

I can however highly recommend The Farnham Estate in Cavan - been there many times, always found it excellent!

The Cliff House Hotel in Waterford was also lovely, great rooms, very stylish, lovely spa.

The Radisson in Galway also has great Spa facilities, as does T G.

Again, I cannot stress enough how bad Monart was though. :(

My experience of Carton House has been mixed. We specifically asked for the older style small suite with a four poster bed for our anniversary. Instead we were given a large modern room with no four poster. When they pointed this mistake out though they moved us to the Presedential suite which is nealy as big as our house:D. Then we ordered breakfast in bed which never arrived even when we rang looking for it. Eventually one of the staff I met on the corridor sorted it out for us hours late. My sister was there a couple of weeks back and when she went for the dinner she had booked when she made her reservation they told her there was no availability in the restaurant at all that night. Eventually when she threatened to check out they found her a table. Its a nice place and the surroundings are excellent but they just seem to be disorganised which is not what you expect at this price level and star rating. I would get it hard to recommend it to anyone. Go to the Ritz Carlton instead would be my advice.

Mount Falcon without a doubt. It is stunning.

Last year, I went to a hotel in Gorey, Co.Wexford called Seafield Hotel and spa. I would consider myself quite well travelled and this this was by far the nicest hotel I've stayed in. Everything from the decor to the food and scenery and spa was top notch. Also, it's by the sea and has it's own private beach and also has a golf course. I'm trying to get my friends to go again and the hotel has some great special offers going at the minute. Check it out, it's a place that isn't well known but is up there with the best- www.seafieldhotel.com

Seafield in Gorey has a fabulous spa (Oceo) - have had a pampering day there which was lovely - didn't actually stay overnight but what I saw of the hotel looked good.
Another place not too far from Dublin is the Mount Wolseley Hotel in Tullow -near Carlow. Spa is one of the most relaxing ones I've been in and no complaints about the rest of the hotel either - lovely restaurant, nice grounds, golf if you're into that.
