    hi guys
well thats it for me ive finally had enough of paying ?1,800 a year for broadband a tv service thats terrible . let me just quickly go tru just a few problems i have . broadband stops working for no apparent reason ,dvr box will freeze have to reboot daily . think im on 4th modem and 3rd dvr box, i wont start on the customers service even though i personally feel it has improved (ie there attitude ) its still very poor. if my broadband goes im waiting a least 9 days for any service , as i work from home its not exceptable . but the straw that broke the camels back started 3 mths ago. invited 4 mates to watch a footy match .only to find all my sports gone . when i rang the dreadded 1908 , they couldn't give me a reason to this . now this happens on a regular basis , if theres a game on i got to go home check its working if not 30 mins on 1908 also on my last bill i was charged 10 euro disconnect fee from sky sports , wtf ive had it 8 years and never wanted it gone. so thats it for me sky here i come , 1 question do i need a landline to get sky.is there a private installer that can install the hd for me without landline

Your post is very hard to read when you string all the sentences together like that.

You don't need a phone line unless you want multiroom.

Sign up online for the best deal, getting a private installer will only cost more. Think carefully where you will want the dish and the cables run, look at neighbours who have Sky already, installers generally have rules about what they'll do and what they won't. Choose your package carefully, it will save you a lot of money in the long run.

Read all the small print thoroughly! I've been with Sky for years but I'm not a huge fan in the way they do some of their dealings, don't get me wrong the service is great, the customer service and sneaky price hikes etc aren't!!

    What a pain!!

Yes, a private installer will install a single HD box without a landline. At the moment you can expect your install 7 / 8 days from ordering.

" if my broadband goes im waiting a least 9 days for any service , as i work from home its not exceptable . but the straw that broke the camels back started 3 mths ago. invited 4 mates to watch a footy match .only to find all my sports gone "

    Priorities :p

The majority of private installers have the same offers as Sky Direct at the moment.

If the installers have proper public liability, there should not be any problem with any realistic type of install.

My understanding is that from time to time Sky do a call-back to the HD box to ensure it is connected to a landline. If the box cannot be contacted then you loose your service.

So even if you do get it installed you will loose the service soon enough if it's not connected to a landline.

That's what my installer told me anyway.

For single box installs a landline in not necessary. For multiroom installs it is. Sky do call back to the boxes through the phone line to ensure all boxes sold on a multiroom offer are on the one premises.
