Hi, i got a wii this eve, 2nd hand, i got it to work at my friends no problem.

Took it home and all seems to be ok but i cant get the game to play.
It loads fine and is on the screen, but the little hand wont come up on the screen to select the game.

Would it be that the batteries arent strong enough to work the remote? The batteries that we used at my friends arent the ones we are using now in mine.

Oh just to add, the remote will allow me to move the screen left and right with the buttons beside the home button but its just the hand that wont come up on the screen.

re-sync with your console and doublecheck the baterries. Dont think its something serious

Thats great thanks, hopefully its just the batteries, so ill get new ones tomorrow and try that first and then do the sync thing.
I know it worked as it did this eve.

Is the remote very sensitive when you are trying to get the hand/cursor to click on the game to start it?

Depends on the way you have it set, after you sync it you can also set sensitivity in the Wii software, setting it to default should resolve problems.

I havent done anything with it. I got it this eve, set it up at my friends and played it no problem. Brought it home to mine and theres no hand on the screen, but as i said, they are diff batteries so maybe thats it.

I guess it's set up and connected properly and you are using it within the correct range?

I honestly dont know, its my first one, but i used it at my friends this eve no problem and just brought it home and hour later and turned it on and no hand, that seems to be the only problem.

Sounds like you haven't connected the sensor bar.

Achillies is almost definitely correct - You can use buttons so it has to be synched (if you have a blue LED on the Wiimote to show that it's #1/2/3/4 then it's connected.) However, you only get the hand when it registers that you're pointing at the screen, which is where the sensor bar comes in.

Bear in mind, the sensor bar is just a pair of IR emitters used to approximate the position of the pointer on screen. If your sensor bar is connected to the Wii but the Wiimote still isn't getting you a pointer, put two candles about 12 inches apart on your fireplace (not on your telly) and point your wiimote at them, then see if the pointer appears and moves on the telly screen. If so, it's your sensor bar. Check the cable for kinks and chafing - it might have gotten reefed out of the Wii at your friends house in your excitement to get it home :) If you were sold a wireless sensor bar, change the batteries in that.

By the way, when you first press a button on the Wiimote, all 4 leds will flash blue if your batteries are full before settling on a single LED to indicate which player number you are. If 3 flash, you have 3/4 of a full charge, 2 for half etc etc. If you don't see any of them flash, you have insufficient charge to drive the controller. Never seen the pointer fail while the controller was connected - when you batteries are going, you'll see errors telling you to reconnect Player X's wiimote (ingame, at least)
