You read that right folks, Mad Men seasons 1 and 2 are on the RTE player. You can watch them right now for free! Until June next year!

    Fair play to RTE!

(It says Seasons 1 and 2, yet only season 1 is up. I assume Season 2 will be added soon)

    Linky!

Nice find. I missed this due to RTE's showing it at an ungodly hour

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    Sweet... meant to watch this!

I read it's VERY slow.. so I've a feeling it'll be one of those shows I'll quit on - like Sons Of Anarchy and Big Love.

    Hope not though!

Just when I had lost all faith in RTE, well done to whoever arranged this. All that's missing is an apology for putting Mad Men on at a crazy time slot in the first place.

That RTE player is a nice bit of kit, I hope they copy 4OD and put some archive material on it as well. A few more full series like Mad Men would also be sweet.

June 2010, I'd imagine... Good chance they'll put it in a very decent timeslot (probably wherever LOST is put this year), hence the serious promotion on the RTÉ Player...

Fair play to RTE. A nifty piece of kit that aul player.

Can not recommend the show enough, don't think I've ever enjoyed a drama as much as this. The makers seem to be unrestricted in what they do, there are numerous scenes that are completely unnecessary in the context of plots but they always add to the characters and its all the better for it.

Watched the first episode last night - love it already.

Perhaps if enough people watch this on the RTÉ Player they might show it at a decent time. To think ****e like Podge & Rodge is shown at before midnight.

We must all watch this several times over to insure that it is put on at a good time on RTÉ. Recommend that your friends, co-workers and relatives watch :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭Mad_Max

Well after 2 seasons in a touch over 2 days I think I can safely say I love the show.

Not a hope in hell I'm waiting until January for season 3. Off to stream-land I go... :D

Was a little worried about the quality of series 2, but episode 4 was very good.
The team attempting to salvage American Airlines, Don's children acting up, Don and Betty fighting...nice little scene between Don and his son towards the end. And Peggy's storyline with her family and the priest.

Without trying to sound like a Wire-evangelist, if you haven't yet seen Mad Men get to it pronto.

It's probably the best ensemble show I've ever seen. Don Draper may be the show's centre but it's really all the smaller storylines floating around him that makes the show tick.

Although, now that the 3rd season has ended there is a gaping void in my life. Damn you TV, for you are a double edged sword!

Finished series 2 courtesy of RTE over the weekend and rather enjoyed it. The revelation of
two pregnancies (current (Betty) and past (Peggy) in the finale might have been a little much, but that's a minor complaint.
Just need to check out the third series now.

Lovely, cheers RTE. But the least they could do for puttin it on a bad time schedule. If only htey could put Lie to Me and The Life and Times of Tim on it which are on at 2/3 o clock in the morning.

I think we are going to see more and more serials put up on the player in the coming months. They may need to renegotiate the terms of the licences to allow them on the web. They seem to have all of their English programming on the player.

Yeh this is great news, Mad Men is absolutely amazing. No spoilers but series 3 is unreal.

Does anyone know why Mad Men was removed from the RTE player? It was up yesterday, thought it was available until June? Have contacted them but no reply!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 604 ✭✭✭Kai

No idea but its dissappointing as i only found this thread today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Barna77

Typical RTE.... I had nearly finished season 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Barna77

    Removed because of copyright

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

Can you expand on that Barna? Did you contact RTE?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Barna77

I did. Asked why it had been removed it, this is RTE's answer

"Thank you for contacting RTÉ Player with your query.

Due to copyright restrictions we had to remove Mad Mad Season One and Two from the RTÉ Player before the intended date of June 2010. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

We hope you continue to enjoy using the RTÉ Player."

Well, I won't be enjoying the RTE player any more....

Man, Mad Men is cool. I wish I was as cool and stylish as the characters in Mad Men.
Mebbe I should take up drinking, smoking and philandering.

On a serious note, does the series get better? I watched the first 10 eps and found it dull. Everything looks so pretty though....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Barna77

Yeah, it does get better. And you're right, it's so cool. Wouldn't like to live in the 60s though. No internet?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,200 ✭✭✭Mindkiller

I think I could live without internet if it meant lazing about all day, drinking on the job. Decent trade-off.

Season 4 has recently finished on BBC4, you should have picked up episode 13 on either Wed. Dec 1st or if that slot on your DVR was already taken you should have recorded it on Sat. Dec 4th.

On one of the RTÉ pages it still says "Catch up on seasons 1 and 2 of Mad Men on the RTÉ Player On your PC, simply visit www.rte.ie/player to start watching both seasons now!"

    Annoying!
