So I received a call from this number:

    0906123456

The red part of the number is real, rest is changed.

Now I've tried to ring it back on mobile but I am getting an 'error in connection' sound. Da da da! for anyone who can understand that, lol

Trying to call from a land line now. I know its not a Dublin number, but don't know where it is.

I'm calling from Dublin, is there some of it I should be leaving out?

Sorry for the retardedness of this post. I'm sick, maybe that has something to do with my stupidity.

    Whay! Go me.

EDIT: Also there's another thread about o2 calling from a northern line to get people to change their connection type. Might be that?

It's just a random mixture of luck and genetics.

Get a friend to do it for you. :P

I don't know but with a name like that it's not like your folks gave you a fighting chance to begin with now is it?

Chances are that you're seeing the UK caller ID, which means that you'd have to dial +44 before it in order to call it back.

But why bother ? Chances are (from the links given) that it's a scam line.

If it's genuine and they want to contact you, let them ring again.

Is it not Westmeath or somewhere?

Nah it's definitely in Ireland, and around the westmeath are sounds spot on
But how will I call it? Leave the 1st 3 digits off?

    Ill try that now.

no wait I already did that and I got an answering machine.

That may well be the right number, but without the first 3 digits could that not be mistaken for a Dublin number?

You spelt ''why'' wrong in the thread title. Maybe that answers your question?

why? there are more places in the country with 7 digit numbers than just Dublin.

    090 is South Roscommon/Athlone/Ballinasloe

Snyper's defo on to you ,then
Best change your number and move your address, just to be sure (and speak in a grown-up voice if he does get through to you).

If it's Athlone, the prefix is 090 and must be a 7 digit number

So from Dublin you must dial 090 1234567. Dialing 5 digits in Dublin will get you nowhere.

If it's a UK number you must dial 0044901234567

If it's Turkey you must dial 00901234567

Still getting nothing but I think that you are right. The phone must just be off the hook. Perfectly understandable if this is a 9-5 business line, which it may well be.

    thansk

ps: I noticed the misspelling of 'thanks' but decided to leave it there in keeping with the other atrocious spelling mistakes I've made tonight! :D
