Can't get Discovery Channel on NTL

I'm using XP on my Media Centre at home but can't get Discovery Channel. It comes in fine if I plug straight into my TV but it won't show up in Media Centre.

    Any suggestions?

I hate to say it, but "Me too". I also have a problem with Channel 4 on certain tuners. I suspect that they are at the very end of the the tuner's reception capability, but it very frustrating I've tried different tuners and they all seem to miss out one or the other. Time to switch to DVB-S and get a dish, not that Windows 7 supports it.

Nah, I don't reckon that's the case because I've had it tuned in when I first got my Media Centre (over 2 years ago). For some reason it just tuned itself out ages ago. I just ignored it but now it's bothering me.

In some UPC/NTL: areas C4, E4 and Discovery are on very low frequencies, can't remember the exact term, Band I or something. In newer areas, or ones that have been upgraded they've moved those 3 channels up to much higher frequencies along with all the other channels. Maybe you've been upgraded, and hadn't noticed.
    Channel Frequency
    OLD
    The Discovery Channel 48 MHz
    Channel 4 56 MHz
    E4 64 MHz

    NEW
    E4 471 MHz
    Channel 4 543 MHz
    The Discovery Channel 575 MHz

Eh, possibly. But what does that mean?

They're the old and new frequencies that those channels are on on the Dublin UPC (ex NTL:) cable network. I assume that somewhere you have to tune the relevant channels in on Media Center, so those are the frequencies you'd use. I don't know how you do that in XP Media Center, so maybe someone else can chime in and tell.

The freq for the channels are preset in the registry, Media centre doesn’t "scan" for analogue channels. If the freq have changed the values can be changed in the registry, that’s a last resort though and can be tricky to maintain as it tends to default back with updates.

As far as I can remember I got 2 versions of E4 and Discovery channel, one is full of snow (which I disabled) the other is fine. Check your TV setting and channel setup make sure no channels are disabled, see if that solves it.

Yeah same here, but both are just snow.
