Hi, I was thinking of putting some money in some energy companies in the wind, solar areas etc. I was wondering has anybody on here done this in the past. These are areas that has the potential for alot of growth in the next few years if you get the right companies!! Who did you invest in or where did you get your information from?

Since the motor car was invented, we've seen hundreds and hundreds of companies go out of business. Take a look at this list of defunct automobile companies in the United States. While a few companies were probably bought out, most probably went backrupt or went out of business, losing you your money. If you had bought a basket of these shares and even if you were lucky enough to have picked GM, Ford or Chrysler, your investment returns would still have been poor.

While I won't dismiss the renewable energy sector entirely, what you're trying to do is much more difficult than trying to pick a decent stock in an established industry, without any extra reward.

I would suggest a managed fund rather than trying to pick shares yourself in this area

I wouldn't waste my money. You'll be paying massive fees for what is essentially an index fund.
