im finding this site a great idea for help and info. wondering if anyone can help me with this?

Im receiving my money every week as a cheque in the post because im working part time.
I havent received any info about when to sign on or anything tho? iv only been in the sw office once, when i went in to open the claim. everything else has been done by post (other than dropping my yellow slips in but they just go in a post box).

can anyone tell me if ill be needed to sign on, or if because im not receiving the full amount because of my part time job this doesnt apply to me perhaps?

    im clueless :o

    You should get notice.
But the backlog is the reason you have not.

Tomorrow phone your local office, if they don't answer then don't be concerned. They simply don't have the staff to deal with that
    And don't even bother emailing

Visit your office this week and you'll get an answer there and then. And bring your PPS number, nothing worse for a SW officer then trying to answer questions for someone who can't be bothered to bring the necessary ID and information

When you receive your on the receipt there should be a reference to when your next sign on date is, if there isn't then the previous poster is probably right and it's probably because of the backlog. Just be careful, because I received notification for my first sign on date and they never said anything about when to sign next, but there was a sign hanging up in the office indicating the next sign on date and as I indicated my receipt from the Post Office each week also indicates my next date, but if your not looking for it, you could miss it. You could try ringing, but they rarely answer the phone.

i get my cheque in the post so no post office receipts... it has a little receipt/record thing attached to it and it doesn mention anything about signing on

You or your employer should have got a form which certifies the day you did & did not work which you submit every 2 weeks. At least that was my experience a few years ago. That form would nullify the need to actually sign.

yes i have to fill that in every week and drop it in, thanks very much for that info.... i was starting to think it might be something like this because a few weeks ago i was worrying about when i would be told when to go into the post office to collect my money, but found out thats also different for people working part time as we get it in the post instead.

My partner has been on the dole since March and has not had to sign on once, and that is purely because of back log. We are in north county dublin.
He has been given his first sign on date of the 25th January. 2 months short of being on the dole for a year.

Because you are working part time and claiming casually you do not have to sign on monthly. In essence the docket you submit every week marking the days you work is you signing on.

    +1

When you are bringing in your yellow dockets and get paid by cheque each week you dont have to sign on.
When you bring in the slip each week its more or less saying your available for work...
